Chapter 24
Anastasia walked to the forest after Alpha Kaiden dropped her at the company before going for another meeting.
To say she was taken off–guard by his sudden suggestion today would be an understatement. She had been thinking about it for over an hour and still couldn’t wrap her mind around it.
A contract marriage? With Alpha Kaiden?
Though he said he would wait for her revenge to be over, was she really ready to be involved in that kind of relationship with an alpha as strong as Alpha Kaiden? He wasn’t the disrespectful type. She could see that from all their interactions. But still, the thought alone –
‘He is insanely handsome. I wonder what our kids would look like, Dione added, making Anastasia roll her eyes.
She was contemplating how to say no to his proposition, and her wolf was already imagining their kids.
‘Honestly, I am more interested in the process than the results. As they say, cherish the journey,’ Dione said again, and Anastasia’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
‘Shut up, Dione, She groaned helplessly.
‘Anastasia, Anastasia turned around when she heard someone whisper, furrowing her brows when she noticed no one behind her.
‘I don’t think you should turn around whenever you hear a sound like that. It isn’t always a good omen, Dione said, referring to how she keeps. hearing voices, and Anastasia pressed her lips into a thin line.
“Seriously? Do you believe in bad omens and things?” Anastasia sighed. ‘Why not?‘ Dione asked, sounding offended.
“Well, because I don’t. I think the living are far scarier and more dangerous than the dead. The dead kill you only once, but the living? They find a hundred new ways to torment you until you decide killing yourself is a good decision,” Anastasia reasoned.
Dione didn’t say anything. She knew who or what exactly Anastasia was talking about. And why not? Hasn’t she been pushed way beyond her limits?
Anyways, why are we here? I don’t think we had any task that involved
coming to the west side of the forest, Dione said, and Anastasia hummed.
“I know. We are here to see if we can find some clue on what kind of dealings the rogue head is doing from this side. Didn’t we see the map of this area in Carl’s pocket?” Anastasia asked, remembering the paper she had stuffed in her pocket hurriedly.
She had gotten lucky last night that Kaiden didn’t get his hands on the paper, or her hard work would’ve gone to waste.
If only she found something worthy to hold against –
Creak! Creak!
Anastasia paused when she heard creaking sounds and immediately hid behind a tree.
“It’s strange. Don’t you think? The consignment is suddenly canceled,” Two men were talking as they walked towards the city, and Anastasia narrowed her brows.
The consignment was canceled? What did it mean?
She thought before deciding to continue her search the next day.
If the consignment was canceled, first she would have to find out if there was any relation between Carl’s death and this change, because if there was, she would be in deep shit as it would only mean that the rogue head had found out about his death and might deploy his people to search for the killer, which was her.
Anastasia started running back towards Alpha Kaiden’s area.
Crunch! Crunch!
She heard a weird noise, and she turned to her right from where the noise came, her brows scrunching when she saw three rogues appearing out of nowhere.
What was this? Why didn’t she smelt them?
She noticed how one of them took out their phone and looked at something on the screen before looking back at her.
“She is the one,” The rogue said, and her eyes widened.
Anastasia stepped back, her throat contorting as realization dawned upon her.
“Who are you?” Anastasia asked, and the rogues just chuckled at her. “You shouldn’t be worried about who we are. What you should be
worried about is, who you are for us. You are our key to freedom,” The rogue said, malice dripping in his voice, and Anastasia gulped.
Though their words confused her, she wasn’t stupid enough to want to stay back and discuss what they were talking about or what they wanted with her.
Alpha Kaiden’s pack was only three kilometers away, and even if those guys didn’t like her, they would at least keep her safe until Alpha Kaiden arrived there, right? With this hope, Anastasia started running towards. the opposite side to save herself.
She ran. She moved her legs as fast as she could, but because she had already been running since earlier, she was quite tired.
“You can’t outrun us, girl. Our will to be free from this place is stronger than your legs that are already wobbling,” one of the rogues made fun of her.
Anastasia placed her hand on her waist to ensure her dagger was still
with her.
What should she do? She thought as she kept running, finally taking out her phone and calling one number she thought would help her this time.
She looked at the phone as it kept ringing, her heartbeat increasing its pace as the rogues neared her, making her try harder.
It was times like these when she really wished she could change into her wolf and run faster or probably teach these people a good lesson.
She looked at her phone, a ray of hope rising in her heart when the call connected after six rings.
However, as soon as it did, one of the rogues pounced on her back, and the phone slipped from her hand as she was thrown a few feet away, her body rubbing on the harsh ground painfully.
Tears welled in Anastasia’s eyes when one of the rogues grabbed her legs and pulled her back when she tried to crawl away.
“Leave me alone!” Anastasia screamed at the top of her lungs and kicked the person who held her legs, survival instincts kicking in.
“How can we leave you, hotty? We thought you would be our key to freedom, but it looks like you are our key to some evening fun too,” one of the rogues said before they picked her up in their arms, making her flail her legs helplessly.
“No! Please let me go.” Anastasia cried in agony when the girl slapped her
hard across the face.
“How dare you kick me, bitch? It looks like you need to be taught a lesson,” she said before they placed the duct tape on her mouth and tied her hands, plunging a syringe inside her neck.
They pulled her away like a dead body they were taking away as they slid her body with the help of ropes, making her hot tears roll down her cheeks.
Anastasia dug her nails into her palms, a few drops of blood starting to drop from her hands before she lost consciousness because of the drug they gave her.
In the meeting room, Alpha Kaiden’s brows furrowed when he saw Anastasia calling him.
Seeing the important part of the presentation regarding the rogue head and his allies coming up, he was about to end the call when he suddenly paused.
What if it was something important? Or why would she call him even after knowing he had gone to an important meeting? Could it be regarding what he asked her?
He was contemplating his decision when his wolf spoke up.
‘She never called us, Kaiden. Even when she was bullied in the company, she didn’t call us. It might really be something out of her hand if she needs some kind of help, Atlas said, and Kaiden hummed before picking up the call.
‘Please, let me go. I beg you,‘
‘How can we leave you, hotty?”
“We thought you would be our key to freedom, but it looks like you are our key to some evening fun too,‘
‘Leave me alone,’
Kaiden heard the strange voices around Anastasia and immediately understood what was going on.
“Anastasia! Anastasia!” Kaiden shouted through the speaker before he heard a loud thud, followed by Anastasia’s muffled sobbing as their voices started to fade.
“Alpha, is everything okay?” Everyone in the room looked at their alpha,
and Kaiden looked at Logan.
“It’s Anastasia. Some rogues kidnapped her. Send the search team immediately. This doesn’t sound like a normal rogue attack. It’s a conspiracy,” Kaiden said, and Logan nodded before hurrying out, knowing all too well how much this girl was important for his alpha to cure his curse.
Kaiden and Logan formed three different teams and they rushed in different directions to search for the girl. One team went to the suburbs since she was seen there. The second team went to the city, and the third team with Alpha Kaiden, went to the forests to look for the girl.
