Chapter 5
“Hello?” Anastasia’s voice came out raspier than she had intended after she completed her two hours of exercise in a tiny apartment in the suburbs.
“Are you still boxing? It’s 8 p.m. How long has it been since you started? Girl, do you think boxing day and night will help you land a job?” The dry humor in the man’s voice was clear to Anastasia.
“Why have you called?” She flexed her hand to ease the pain in her fingers, removing her boxing gloves and tossing them on the table.
“He has arrived. The man you have been looking for,” The man said, and Anastasia sucked a breath, her heart skipping a beat.
Fighting. Training. Learning. Falling. Standing up.
That’s what Anastasia has been doing since she exited her previous pack. It has been exactly six months, but it feels like yesterday when her hands. were stained by her mother’s blood.
The horrific scene was still fresh in her mind. Never for a moment did she forget what happened that day and what she promised herself.
Vengeance.
That was her goal. Probably. A life for a life. That’s what Anastasia had thought was perfect revenge, but after living in the outside world for six months, Anastasia knew she wasn’t strong enough to face a cunning. alpha like Jackson Grave.
He was no less. In the past six months, he conquered three packs, thus becoming the third–largest pack in the country.
It wasn’t an easy fight. Anastasia was nowhere near prepared. She hated to admit it, but she was still weak. Too weak.
That’s why it was time to change her strategies now.
The time was to shake hands with –
“Where?” Anastasia remembered she was still on the call.
“If I were you, I wouldn’t want to go there. He is not alone. He has arrived with a group. And you know how difficult these group meetings can be. You’ll have to play by their rules to earn their trust,” the man said.
Anastasia looked at her reflection in the mirror.

“As long as it’s not inappropriate touching, I don’t see why that would be a problem,” she sighed, knowing all too well how dangerous those games can be.
“It’s not that I am worried about, Sia,” the man said, her name barely a whisper, and she waited for him to give her the bad news.
“What exactly is it?” She asked.
“I haven’t seen him personally, but I heard the devil is here,” “Devil?” Anastasia suppressed the urge to laugh out loud.
“I didn’t know they had demons in this city. And here I thought I was in a safe place,” she mused.
“It’s not something you should joke about, Anastasia. You came to this city three days ago and probably didn’t leave that dinky apartment of yours. If you had, you would’ve heard the tales of the devil that rules this city, in fact, this nation,” the man said, and Anastasia took a sip of water.
“Does your devil have a name? Or any distinct feature I should use to identify him?” Anastasia asked, and the man sighed.
“You will know he is the one when you see one. Alpha Kaiden Blackthorn isn’t someone you can pass by without feeling his dominance,” The man said, and Anastasia hummed.
“At least that man I am looking for will be able to give me the information about Carl, right?” Anastasia asked, and the man hummed.
“Message me the address and that informant’s face and other distinct. features,” Anastasia said before she went inside the bathroom to get ready for the club, pub, or whatever it was.
After fifty minutes, she stood in front of the venue, her heart drumming in her chest.
Alpha Kaiden Blackthorn would be here, that man said. In the thirty minutes of her ride, she had enough time to find and read articles about this particular alpha, who was now ruling the nation.
She had heard his name before, but she didn’t know he was known as the devil in this part of the state. And why not? This place was nearest to hist pack.
If it weren’t for the information she needed, she would’ve never come close to this kind of alpha and his pack, who was feared even by the council.

It was quite irking. She was in no position to provoke any alpha, especially a devil. And the fact that she was a rogue was her biggest downfall. Then again, she did not have much of a choice now, did she?
She will have to take this risk and find that man who knows about Carl. Carl, the right–hand man of the rogue head, is the only person who can help her take her revenge on Jackson.
With a deep breath, Anastasia walked inside the club, looking at the crowd with thinned lips.
The air was thick with the lingering odor of alcohol, sweat, lust, anger, and blood.
Anastasia sighed, clenching her hand inside her jacket pocket.
That man said that the informer was seen on the first floor. Anastasia

“Hey, hottie, come here,” Someone grabbed her hand, and she jerked her hand away instinctively.
“Ooh, feisty. I like it,” that stranger said, clearly drunk, and she gritted her teeth.
She was never a fan of such places exactly because of perverts like him.
“Call me that again, and I’ll rip that tongue out of your mouth. Don’t test me,” Anastasia looked straight into that man’s eyes, who knitted his brows.
“Are you threatening me? Do you know who I am? How dare you? You bitch!” That man lunged at her.
She groaned and stepped aside, letting him fall to the ground. This man was uselessly delaying her time. She wasn’t here for that. As important as meeting that man was, Anastasia wasn’t a fool to stick around in a place where Alpha Kaiden was known to come. She was wearing a pendant that hid her rogue scent, but she wouldn’t take any chances.
Thus, as much as she wanted to kick this man senselessly for calling her a bitch, she didn’t want to attract useless attention either.
She was about to walk ahead when her phone vibrated, and she looked at the caller ID with narrowed eyes.

“What is it?” She asked.
“Where are you?” The man asked.
“What do you mean? I am here to meet that man, of course,” Anastasia sighed, walking towards the rooms.
“Get out of there,”
The man’s words made Anastasia freeze in her place, her hand on the doorknob of the first room.
“What is that supposed to-”
“That informer ran away when he found out that Alpha Kaiden would be there. He isn’t there anymore. So just get out of that goddamn place. It looks like Alpha Kaiden is there to find him too. If he as much as got a little inkling that you were there to meet the informant too, Kaiden will capture you, and you can kiss your dream of killing Jackson goodbye,” That man urged.
“Don’t. Anastasia Thompson will not die until Jackson is alive. Nothing can kill me until I kill him. So don’t you ever even bring that thought to your mind,” Anastasia’s eyes turned dark before she ended the call.
She swiftly made a quick turn around and headed down the stairs. With a bee–line towards the door, she was about to rush forward when a man caught her attention.
This jerk was the last person she wanted to meet here..
He was the agent who promised her he would get her a good job here.
“Miss Anastasia,” he smiled.
Anastasia forced a smile on her face, “Mr Grey,”
“I didn’t expect to see you here. I guess it’s God’s plan. My friends ditched me, and I was left to drink alone. Well, now I am not. You are here,” Mr Grey said, and Anastasia grimaced at his yellow teeth and lust–filled eyes.
“That’s/so sad to hear, Mr. Grey. I wish I could stay here with you. Unfortunately, I am here with someone. Though I do hope you get a partner soon. Enjoy your night.” She was about to get up when Mr Grey held her hand.
“Is that so? Why don’t you call that person here too? The night is still young. You are not planning on leaving as soon as you come here, right? I saw you entering earlier,” He said, and Anastasia gritted her teeth.
He probably knows that she is alone here and is doing this deliberately.

F*ck this man. She can’t even blow her cover, or he would go straight to his alpha and complain about her. Damn her luck!
Now where is she going to find a companion now? Anastasia turned around, sweeping her gaze at the crowd to see a decent man who could be used for this purpose.
Too sweaty. Too girly. Too funny. Already busy with girls. Anastasia sighed before looking to her right, where a man was standing, sipping his drink, his posture screaming masculinity and dominance.
Great. That’s the kind of man who will easily scare this pervert. If she can just pull it off with him, she might get the chance to run away from here, no? She nodded at herself, wanting to go out of there before she encountered Alpha Kaiden.
With a resolute mind, Anastasia walked to the man and sat beside him.
“Hey?” Anastasia started.
*Nothing*
“Are you alone here?” She asked him.
*Nothing*
“Let’s get straight to the point. That man over there is a total creep and wants to take me with him. He is helping me get a job, and I can’t offend him. I told him I was here with someone so that he could leave me alone. Can you pretend we are together?” Anastasia asked, looking at the man hopefully, and for the first time since she arrived, the man glanced at her.
With a scoff, he turned around, and she widened her eyes.
“Hey, it will only take –” She held his biceps to stop him, but her foot twisted, and she closed her eyes, accepting her fate. However, to her shock, the pain she was expecting never came.
She opened her eyes and looked into the darkest hazel eyes she had ever
seen.
His hand was on her waist, keeping her from falling, and she could feel warmth spreading throughout her entire body with his one touch.
It was surprising, and she knew he could feel it. This wolf, whoever he was, was unmated.
She looked at the wild shock and confusion in the man’s eyes and grimaced inwardly at how she was stooping so low to force herself on a man today.

“Miss Anastasia! Are you okay?” Mr. Grey shouted from some distance, and Anastasia thinned her lips.
“I am sorry,” Anastasia murmured to the man, making him knit his brows. “What-?”
With a deep sigh, she lifted herself before placing her lips on his, making him freeze in his place.
The girl just didn’t do what he thought she did, right? His eyes immediately turned dark.
