I Refuse to Divorce! by Light Breeze Chapter 127

Chapter 127

Mason and Zoe looked at each other intensely.

He noticed she was wearing a patient’s gown and that she looked rather pale. He then realized she had a resigned look on her face as she regarded him, as if she didn’t know him at all.

It wasn’t that long ago when she was lying in his arms and speaking to him tenderly.

“It might take me years, even decades, to rediscover my love for you, Mason. Would you still want it then?”

He meant it when he said, “I would!” However, he couldn’t deny that he did squander her love after that.

They stared at each other for a long time. At last, he spoke with a trembling voice, “Zoe!”

He tried to grab her hand, but she shoved him away.

A hint of sadness traced her lips as she spoke sternly, “I’ve been so naive! I can’t believe I thought you were really starting to love me! To this day, you still thought I set you up that night. Just what am I to

you?

“I can’t believe I expected you to love me and that we’re really starting over! This is just ridiculous, Mason. Are you just that good at manipulating people, or am I just that big of a moron?!

“I thought the worst thing that could happen was that you didn’t love

me in the end!

“It turns out it was just you still wanting to toy with me! Answer me, Mason. When will you stop toying with me? When will you let me go? I can’t afford to be your plaything anymore!”

1/3

She didn’t want to cry, but her tears flowed uncontrollably when she heard the truth. She knew he didn’t love her, but they had been having sex for three years on end. That had to have done something!

The truth, however, was that she was merely a plaything to him and he planned on toying with her for much longer. He merely thought of her as a worthless whore!

Mason tried to touch her again, but she shoved him much fiercer than

she did earlier.

Taking a series of steps back, her frame looked frail under the

morning light as she stared at him through tears. They clouded her vision, but she put on a smile defiantly, “Don’t touch me, Mason. I told you, you’re so filthy that I couldn’t bear the idea of you touching me!”

With that, she turned and left. Cecil called out after her, “Zoe!” but she was long gone. She couldn’t hear him or anything else. The only thing

she could hear now was his stinging words.

“I’m not done toying with her!”

Mason was stunned.

With tears in her eyes, the servant was almost sobbing when she grumbled, “Where were you last night, Mr. Mason? Ms. Zoe was suffering excruciating pain from stomach spasms. I gave you several calls but you didn’t pick up any of them. I have no idea how I’m going to explain myself to Ms. Zoe’s mother if anything happened to her!”

He stared at her and said, “Zoe’s not feeling well, you say…”

She was about to say something when she heard a lady’s agonizing scream, along with some feeble cries from the ward. Without a moment’s delay, he charged back into the ward.

Stunned, she asked her master after a brief pause, “Aren’t you

supposed to go after Ms. Zoe, Mr. Mason?”

Lilith was hooked up to a ventilator again. Mason simply couldn’t

leave.

was raining by the time everything settled down and he raced downstairs. The black limousine was parked in the rain, its wipers swishing left and right.

Zoe was in the car. The car window was all that was separating them. Raindrops slid down the window, mirroring the movement of the tears on her cheeks.

The door was locked.

Hammering the car window, Mason said, “Open up, Zoe! Let me

explain.” He wanted to tell her that she had got it all wrong. He didn’t treat her as badly as she claimed. In fact, he was happy when he was

with her. 2

However, his cries fell on deaf ears.

After a while, she turned to him slowly, her eyes were slightly red when she looked at him as if he was a stranger in her life. Parting her lips, she said to Luke, “Drive!”

Luke was too afraid to say anything. So, he stepped on the gas pedal-

at once.
