Chapter 159
Zoe, fearing he might do something even crazier, spoke calmly, “Let’s go.”
Mason loosened his grip on her slightly.
She bid farewell to Cecil, who smiled faintly.
“Zoe, come over to hang out when you have time. My mom really misses you.”
Zoe nodded.
Ignoring Mason, she walked straight to the black Bentley, opened the
passenger door, and got in.
Mason followed her into the car.
Soon, the car drove away.
Cecil stood in place for a long time until his mother came down and approached him. She gently patted her son shoulder, smiling faintly.
“It’s no wonder you like her.”
Cecil put his hands in his pockets

Zoe sat quietly.
Then, she softly said, “Today was Mrs. Ruby’s birthday. He just gave me a ride on his way home from work. Don’t overthink it.”
Mason looked at the night outside the car, speaking softly, “Are you explaining to me or afraid I’ll look for him?”
Zoe was unusually candid. “I’m afraid you’ll look for him.”
Mason took out a cigarette, placed it between his lips, and lit it. Before he could take a puff, he extinguished the cigarette. Then came the sound of the seatbelt being unbuckled.
He leaned over, pressing on Zoe’s shoulders.
Looking into her eyes, he asked softly, “So, do you like him? Have you ever fantasized about doing things with him?”
Zoe slapped him.
He seemed to have anticipated her slap and didn’t dodge. He said those words on purpose.
The atmosphere in the car was subtle.
Zoe didn’t want to make it too heated with him. She wanted to get out of the car, but as she gripped the door handle, Mason locked the car
from the inside.
Mason stared at her, leaning back in his seat. “Zoe, I’ll continue taking care of Lilith, arranging doctors for her treatment. It’s not because I like her, nor is it just because of that favor from years ago… I have reasons I can’t explicitly state. She lost a leg, can’t conceive, and now has multiple organ failures. She won’t live for much longer.”
He looked at her sideways. “She was never my lover.”
Zoe remained silent.

Mason looked out into the night again, his voice huskier than before.
He said, “Zoe, I don’t know how to win a woman’s heart. I used to think I just needed to spend money, give expensive jewelry, or satisfy her in bed…
He had a remorseful expression.
Zoe responded coldly, “Are you done? Can you let me out now?”
Her hand was held down.
Mason’s expression was calm, and if one didn’t look closely, they wouldn’t know how much strength he used to keep her in place. Zoe couldn’t move, so the two remained in a stalemate.
After a long while, he finally let go of her and took out two items for
her.
It was a car key and a key to the Kirk Manor gate.
Mason looked at her with deep, gentle eyes. “From now on, drive yourself to social events and get a designated driver when you go back. Also, Kirk Manor has been redecorated. Your dad and Mia can
move in anytime.”
Zoe didn’t take them.
She looked down at the key to Kirk Manor, her voice soft and hoarse.” I don’t want them, Mason. Don’t try to please me with these things anymore. We’re separated. Even if we maintain the title of husband and wife, it’s just a formality… Whenever you decide, we can proceed with the paperwork.”
Mason gazed at her.
After a while, he asked softly, “Zoe, is there no way to change your mind, no matter how hard I try?”
“None.”
The car interior was dim, and Zoe blinked her tears away.
She repeated, “None.”
