Chapter 175
Zoe felt disheartened, listening to him. She murmured, “If you could feel heartbroken for me, then how did we come to where we are today, Mason?”
She felt miserable and refused to say anything further. Taking her purse, she was about to leave. Then, Mason leaned over and held her hands gently, “At least stay for dinner with me!”
Shaking her head, she said softly, “It’ll never be appropriate for you to invest in me, Mason! Enjoy your dinner. I’m leaving.”
He kept his hand over hers. It was hard to tell what was on his mind. It seemed he pondered on the situation for a long time when he finally took his coat and said, “I’ll give you a ride home!”
He had always been assertive and wouldn’t take no for an answer. So, he took her out of the private room and into the black Bentley he parked outside.
The moment he opened the car door to the passenger seat, there was a ball of white fur on the seat. It was Sherry!
The little puppy was curled up into a ball, lying on the leather seat. It lookike it was sleeping. Then, Sherry heard the noise and raised.

“What’s the problem here?” Taking a step forward, he was about to touch her shoulder.
However, Zoe had a drastic reaction to it. Taking a huge step
backward, she leaned her back on the black Bentley as she looked at Mason with tears in her eyes quietly.
“Don’t come any closer, Mason! Stop where you are.”
Lowering her gaze, she kept herself steady by holding onto the car. Step by step, she put some distance between him and her. She stumbled in her footsteps, the sight reminiscing her marriage with Mason which hadn’t been a smooth experience as well.
Snow fell gently from the sky and landed on her hair as well as her shoulder. Not even the gentle snow could soothe her as she walked alone on the streets. It wasn’t easy for her to muster up her courage to leave Mason, and she was well on her way to move on from him, but he just wouldn’t let her go.
He treated her well and he always showed up when she was going through a hard time.
The old memories returned with a vengeance. It pounded at her mind relentlessly, reminding her that she loved him. It was so
overwhelming that she had to run away from him. She used to be
able to love Mason fearlessly for six years. However, she didn’t even have the courage to look at him now
“Zoe!”
She heard Mason calling out to her from behind. Stopping in her tracks, she lowered her gaze. Her voice broke when she said, “Why did you go back to buy the puppy, Mason? It looks just like…”
“Sherry reminds you of you, right?” Closing the car door, he looked at her delicate back and said with a husky voice, “Ava brought it back. I

thought it looked like you and I loved that about it.
“You said you wanted to go home by yourself earlier. Fine. I’ll let you do that, but give me a call when you’re back home. Okay?”
Zoe turned around sharply and stared at him with her reddened eyes. They locked gazes with each other across the falling snow, some thirty feet from each other.
That night, no romantic oaths were uttered. All that remained was their battered marriage as well as the painful memory of the countless times he had disappointed her.
Zoe didn’t return home. Instead, she went to Kirk Manor. The manor key was full of sweat by the time she got out of the cab. Mason gave it to her earlier. He said, “I passed by Kirk Manor and went into the grounds to look. The winter jasmines in the garden have blossomed!”
Half of the manor was covered by snow, giving it a serene gorgeousness in the dark of night.
Paising her head, she stared at the manor for a long time.
hen, she unlocked the ornate gate and the lights in the yard turned on one by one, illuminating the falling snow as they spun and whirled in the night sky.
