I Refuse to Divorce! by Light Breeze Chapter 185

Chapter 185

It was close to noon by the time the servants found Zoe in the study.

It was day, but the lights were still on. Zoe was lying flat on the wooden desk. A black bathrobe was all she was wearing. All the

evidence of Mason’s lust and her body’s reaction to it had all but dried up on her body.

Her eyes were closed and there were the salt trails of dried tears on her cheeks. Lying there motionless, her face was unusually flushed. The servant touched her and found that she was burning up.

Frightened, she yelled, “Ms. Zoe has got a fever!” She was old and she had been married too. It didn’t take her too long to figure out what caused the fever. She called Mason immediately but nobody picked

At that moment, Mason was having a meeting with the higher-ups of the Lockwood Corporation. There was a big project and he was ready to take it on, but the top management staff and shareholders had more conservative ideas. They thought he was moving too quickly. and that it was too risky.

About half of them disagreed with the deal. So, they had been having negotiations about it for more than ten hours.

The servant couldn’t find him, so she had no choice but to call Luke. They still had to preserve Zoe’s dignity, so both servants put on clothes for her carefully and put a coat on her to keep her warm.

Throughout the entire process, they didn’t really dare risk a glance at her body. They thought Mason was too cruel and didn’t know how to take it easy on her!

Something fell out of Zoe’s palm when she was lifted.

It was the pair of cufflinks.

Falling onto the carpet, they radiated a gleaming light that was reminiscent of her tears.

Zoe passed out when she was brought into the car. The servant took her temperature and found that it was a hundred and four degrees Fahrenheit. Shocked, she gave her master another call, but no one picked it up.

A tear-rolled down her cheek. It looked like this was truly the end of Mason and Zoe’s marriage.

The car tore through the streets. About half an hour later, the car pulled into Lockwood Hospital. It was the family hospital.

Normally, Zoe could’ve just been immediately admitted into the presidential suite. That was how it was supposed to go, but Luke was informed that someone had occupied the suite already. However, the nurse refused to tell him who it was.

Helping Zoe up, it took Luke everything he had to refrain from

shouting, “She’s Mr. Mason’s wife. Tell me. Who has the right to use the suite if not her?”

Zoe was burning up really bad, but there was just something in her heart that told her she had to take a look at who was in the suite.

Perhaps she already knew the answer, but she had to see it with her own eyes. That’d make it easier for her to give up.

She pushed open the door and saw Lilith on the bed.

Lilith didn’t have long to live, but she wore a calm expression. She

was acting cute with her mother as she fed her a piece of fruit, Mason said he was going to visit me in the evening! I think I still have a place in his heart, Mom!”

Zoe blinked. She was about to fall apart, but she didn’t make a commotion. Instead, she turned to Luke and said, “Just get me into a regular ward, Luke!”

Tears welled up in Luke and the servant’s eyes. They were disheartened by what she was going through now.

Luke helped her as she shuffled in the hospital hallway. Every step of the way was excruciating. Mason was the one who put her through the pain while the lady he cherished so much stayed in the

presidential suite. Lilith was about to die, but she was acting all sweet and affectionate with him.

It was so revolting Zoe could just throw up!

Mason explicitly told her that Lilith wasn’t his lover and yet, here she was, staying in the suite. What did she, the wife, mean to him, then? She was nothing. That’s what!

All of a sudden, she stopped in her tracks and looked out the window. Thin pockets of snow collected on the branches. It looked like it was as cold outside as it was in here.

In a daze, she cast her mind back to the night the blossomed winter jasmine, the petals looking fresh and tender.

That was the night she felt something stirred in her heart. It turned out, however, that she was the only one who had a heart!

So, what if he knew that someone forced her to do what she did back in that day? Nothing had changed. She was only there to sate his lust. He still thought of her as nothing more than a beautiful plaything!
