Chapter 194
Mia produced a key and set it down on Mason’s desk. She even forced herself to flash him a grateful smile.
“I talked it over with Gordon before I came here. We already sent away the two private nurses. Also, we’ll no longer stay at Kirk Manor, which you so graciously gave us. We’ll move out this afternoon!
“As for Noah, it’s up to you if you want to keep helping him. For the record, we’re prepared to take the loss. If we’re lucky, we might be able to see him return to us once he’s served his sentence.”
Mia sobbed a little. “Now, all that’s left is Zoe…”
She paused for a moment before continuing. “Both of you were married for several years. You have to have some appreciation for everything she’s done throughout the years.
“So, please let her go! The only thing she did wrong was to fall in love with you when she was young! It’s not a crime to have loved the wrong person now, is it?”
Mason flinched. He stared at Mia. She was heartbroken, but she was still looking out for both of her stepchildren. She had to. There was no one else left in the Sanders family to do so. Even Zoe was
incapacitated now. Mia had no choice but to take matters into her own hands.
She left quietly after she said her piece. The scent of coffee lingered, though it wasn’t as strong as before
He sat in his office alone for a long time. He didn’t come to his senses until the last traces of the evening light shone in through the

Ava knocked and came in. She said softly, “The Sanders have moved out and sent back both of the private nurses, Mr. Mason…”
The evening light shone on his cheeks. His expression was inscrutable.
After that, he drove all the way to Kirk Manor. It seemed that they moved out of there swiftly. Aside from the original furniture, everything else had been taken away. The place was spotless, too, as if no one had lived there.
He strolled to Zoe’s bedroom and found that it was empty as well. The light pink, portable fittings were all taken down. There was nothing left.
Sitting by the white bed, he ran his fingers across it. She leaned on his shoulder and slept that night. He held her and told her that he had to leave in the morning. He’d take her back home when he was back from his work trip.

en within his grasp the whole time.
ps it was because he knew Zoe loved him. No matter how sad artbroken she was, all he had to do was perform some romantic sture to bring her back to him. Failing that, he could just hire a eam of psychiatrists to analyze her. That should take care of it.
Perhaps that was why he never appreciated her.
How ironic, considering she was the only woman he had ever loved.
Later, Mason drove back to the hospital. The last dredges of evening

light shone through the trees when he got out of the car, painting the sky in a reddish hue.
Everything was so overwhelming that he decided to lean on his car and smoke a cigarette. Wearing a white shirt and his deep gray coat, his neatly trimmed hair brought out his defined features. He breathed. out a wisp of smoke, but the wind quickly tore through it.
He stared at the dissipated smoke for a long time before directing his gaze to Zoe’s ward.
What he saw made him freeze.
There were a couple of silhouettes standing by the window. His wife was leaning on David’s shoulders, crying miserably.
The evening light shone on them, giving rise to a beautiful, romantic sight.
He watched as David wiped her tears away and pulled her into his arms. Then, she hugged him back.
Mason just stood there, staring at them for a long time. At that moment, he was heartbroken and experienced the bitter taste of jealousy.
