Zoe leaned on the couch and stared off into the night. After a long time, she leaned over, looked at him, and flashed him a faint smile.

It was the middle of the night and Mason stood at the end of the hallway, smoking. The wisps of smoke were torn away by the wind. There were about eight cigarette butts in the ashtray before him. None of them did anything to help alleviate the overwrought feeling he was experiencing.
