Zoe responded with a simple “Okay.” Before she left, she took Ella’s hands and said, “Wake up soon, Ella.”
That made Mia feel sad again.
Walking over to Zoe, she asked softly, “I was sending the doctor out
and saw you with Cecil this morning. Are you going to give him a chance?”
After a brief silence, Zoe responded, “I have no room in my heart for another relationship, Mia. Not for the time being.”
Mia hesitated before saying, “I know this might not seem like the right time for a relationship. But don’t just turn him down. I could tell he quite likes you and he’s very respectful toward me and Gordon.”
Nodding, Zoe said, “I understand, Mia.”
Zoe chatted with Mia for a while before going downstairs. She had just walked out of the ward when someone grabbed her hand. Tilting her head in surprise, she saw Mason.
Under the evening light, he looked exceptionally cold. Fixing his gaze at her, he said softly, “Get in the car!

Exhausted, she was in no mood to deal with him.

He stared at her briefly before opening the door to the back seat and pushing her in. Then, he got into the car and locked her in before she could make an escape.
Leaning over, she looked at him with tear-stained eyes, “You’re out of your mind, Mason!”
Raising his hand, he patted her cheeks lightly as he stared at her deeply. “I might lose my mind if you really do get with him!”
She turned her head to the side angrily.
It was hard to read what he was thinking because Zoe didn’t exactly deny it. That meant she had thought about being with Cecil. How was he supposed to handle that?
The last evening light gave way to the black of night outside the car and threw both of them into darkness. Mason lit a cigarette and asked her, as wisps of smoke started to fill the car, “Do you who he is? His father is Westley!”
Leaning over and looking at her, he added, “Now that you know that, do you still want to be with him? Are you sure you won’t get confused by how similar we look and call out to the wrong name when you two are sleeping together?”

He snuffed out the cigarette, but the smoke lingered in the car for a long time before it dissipated. In a soft voice, he said, “If you don’t want to talk about us, then perhaps we can talk
about Ella!”
Whipping her head around, she looked at him.
He stared out the window and said lightly, “Langston isn’t going to stop! What he wanted was Ella’s life! It’s fine if you don’t want to trust me, Zoe, but you’re going to lose more people. Then, you’ll realize I’m the only person who can help you!”
