Chapter 313
That was only to be expected. After all, they had been married for several years she had been on the receiving end of his heartlessness for far too many times.
What made her agree with his terms? Well, the was doing it for her baby!
Right now, she was in no condition to inise any child. Yanni was growing slowly, but steadily. That meant she was capable of feat as well. Given her sorry state, she was
afraid she’d subject her baby to fear and emotional trauma at such a young age.
She loved her baby daughter so much that she was thinking about her well–being when she was just this young.
Zoe was fully aware that she was betting on her own life if she went to such a place. She was vulnerable there and Lisa might not let her off that easily. With that said,
she was still willing to take the risk for the sake of her baby.
She responded in a trembling voice, “Okay”
She didn’t look at him, though. She didn’t want to see his heartless expression,
much less think about the fact that she wasted her youth loving him and making a
baby with a man like him.
Gulping, he said in a husky voice, “We’ll hit the road after dinner! I’m coming with
you!”
Lowering her gaze, she smiled faintly. Then, she said gently, “What’s the point,
Mason? If you’re going to send me away, then why bother with the dinner at all? If
we’re doing this, then I’m leaving now!”
With that, she started getting changed. Taking off the patient’s gown, she put on.
casual wear and a puffer jacket over it. Before she left, she looked at him and smiled miserably, “I hope you’ll keep your word and give me Yanni when the time comes.”
There were no words that could describe her disappointment in him.
She turned and left, but he stepped forward briskly and caught her slender arm. His
eyes were dark and deep when he said, “If you change your mind now, then you can
go back to becoming my wife again.”
His grip was so strong that it hurt her.
Locking her gaze on him, she retorted softly, “My biggest regret in life is falling in
love with you, Mason.
That stunned him. She took that opportunity to withdraw her hand. She opened the
door and left.
Ava was standing at the door. As Mason’s assistant, she naturally knew about his decisions. At that moment, she was shocked by how desolate Zoe looked. Out of pure instinct, she tried to stop her.
Zoe
Zoe stopped in her tracks. Turning to look at Ava, she said gently, “I hope you can look after Yanni. I guess I’ll have to repay you in the future.”
Ava was very distressed and disheartened by how things turned out. She held back sobs as she said, “Don’t say that, Zoe. Please, don’t… I’ll talk to Mr. Mason and see if…
Zoe shook her head in response. “When has he ever gone back on his decisions?” Then, she spoke in an even softer voice. “I’ll repay you when we meet again.”
Ava was rooted to the spot while Zoe walked down the hallway. The window at the end of it wasn’t closed all the way and a strong wind rushed in, lifting her long, black hair. She stood tall and straight, but she seemed lonely and dejected.
All of a sudden, Ava sprinted to the window. She stared as Zoe walked downstairs and got into the car. Throughout the whole process, there wasn’t the slightest hesitation or weakness in her bearing.
It was as if she had anticipated how things would end. This was the fate Mason. would’ve decided for her. She was merely waiting for him to make the decision.
Then, she closed the car door and it drove off into the distance.
Out of nowhere, tears streamed down Ava’s cheeks. Gripping the windowpane tightly, she burst into tears. She didn’t care about how she looked right now. She had to unleash the sadness sitting on her chest.
In just a short year, she had witnessed the many times when Mason and Zoe parted ways and reconciled. She also witnessed the tragic end of their love story.
One thing she couldn’t know for sure was if Zoe could make it back.
