Chapter 357
She might’ve done it for Yanni, but the fact was that they had been married for a few years back then. They learned all about sex from each other and no one else. No amount of hatred could erase the sultry nights they spent exploring each other’s bodies.
The fact that they had sex again tonight was no help, either.
Standing by the bed, he remained quiet as he watched her putting on clothes. She didn’t bother to do it elsewhere either. After all, he
had seen all there was to see. She simply didn’t have to be
her c
embarrassed about it.
Just as she was about to leave, she saw that his collar was slightly crooked. Walking over, she fixed it out of habit. He caught her hands abruptly and fixed a profound gaze on her before asking her, “Is this how you straightened up his clothes as well?”
Who was he talking about?
She didn’t even have a chance to answer him before he released his grip and made a beeline to the elevator.
He must’ve misunderstood something.
Pondering on it, she knew he must’ve wrongly assumed that she was with Farley. After all, she did attend the fundraising dinner with him. Farley also entered her apartment in the middle of the night.
Then, she strolled into the elevator but she didn’t bother explaining anything to him. On the other hand, he had no interest in knowing about the specifics between her and Farley, either.
Both of them didn’t so much as utter a single word to each other.
Her phone rang when they were checking out at the concierge. It was
Deborah and she sounded quite agitated, “I think Yanni’s having a fever. Please come home as soon as you can, Ms. Zoe!”
Her heart sank at that. “I’ll be home in a second.”
Hanging up, she looked at him. He said softly in response, “I’m coming with you.”
The black Bentley tore through the streets.
Zoe sat next to Mason and kept quiet the entire drive. Her eyes were
filled with tears when she looked out the car window.
She was heartbroken to learn that Yanni had a fever!
He stepped on the brake gently and stopped the car before the traffic light. Looking ahead, he asked gently, “Does she have fevers frequently?”
She responded softly, “No, not fevers. She did have nosebleeds all the time recently. Dr. Zara said she might get anemia if this keeps up.”
He didn’t feel like asking any further.
The traffic light turned green and he stepped on the gas pedal.
In less than fifteen minutes, they arrived at her apartment. Both of them went upstairs.
Mia had gone back to her hometown for a couple of days, so Deborah and Edith were the only ones looking after Yanni. The little girl burned up to well over a hundred degrees and none of the fever medicines were alleviating the symptoms.
Deborah was about to burst into tears when both Mason and Zoe
came into the apartment. Then, she shed tears of joy and exclaimed, ” You’re back, Mr. Mason. Ms. Zoe!”
Ignoring her greetings, Zoe carried Yanni in her arms and placed her palm on her daughter’s forehead.
It was burning hot.
Yanni was delirious from the fever. Leaning on her mother’s shoulder, she groaned weakly, “I feel so dizzy, Mommy!”
Zoe’s heart could just break at what she said. Pressing her cheeks on her little girl’s, she said tenderly, “I’m taking you to the hospital.”
Sniffing, Yanni asked, “Am I going to feel better after the doctor gives me a shot?”
“Definitely!”
Holding herself together, Zoe put on a coat for her little girl. She was about to carry her when Mason said in his deep voice, “Let me carry her!”
Raising her eyes, she groaned, “Mason…”
However, he already swooped Yanni up and rested her head on his shoulder. Then, he held Zoe by the shoulder and said, “We’re going to Lockwood Hospital. The experts there will diagnose Yanni once again! Don’t worry. I’ll arrange for Dr. Zara to examine her along with them.”
She had no doubt he’d see that it was done.
So, she followed him out the door. Deborah would’ve followed too if he didn’t turn her away.
“We’re Yanni’s parents. We’ll go!”
