It was clearly showing signs of wear and tear, but Mason couldn’t bear to throw them away and kept them in here instead.
Picking them up, she stared at them quietly. All of a sudden,
something pulled at her heartstrings and she completely fell apart.
He said in no uncertain way that she wasn’t the only lady in the world and that he could learn to love another lady!
He also claimed that he’d much rather find an ordinary lady and get
married to her!

He wanted her to start a new life with someone else while he himself rotted in their old manor. That was all of it and yet he still had the gall to lie about his feelings for her.

All of their past, both the good and the ugly, drowned her out!
Her mind traveled back to when they were newlyweds. He was cold to her and s was still shy and submissive. She’d stand in the corner of the fitting room and pick his outfit for the day. Back then, she was overjoyed to have become his wife.
Much time has passed since then. Little did she know, the same sort of joy would wash over her right now.
It was everything she could do to keep herself from crying, but tears were already welling up in her eyes and her nose was reddened.

Refusing to keep thinking about it, she got changed swiftly and went
down the stairs.
Mason wasn’t in the guest room.
Instead, he was smoking in the study, trying to work the stress out of his system. Looking out the window, he was waiting for the crack of
dawn.
The night was quiet, but Layla broke the silence by knocking on his door and speaking in a hushed voice, “Ms. Zoe said she’s leaving, Mr. Mason! She still has a high fever, though. Do you want to check on her?”
Turning his wheelchair around, his eyes grew darker than the black of the night out the window.
On the other hand, Ava was trying to talk some reason into her as well. “You still haven’t recovered, Ms. Zoe. It’s perfectly fine for you to take a rest until the sun comes up.”
Tugging at her clothes, she responded softly, “I think you know me well, Ava. That’s why I expect you to understand me when I say I can’t stay here.
“I still have my honor if I leave now. If I leave tomorrow, however, then I’d just become one of the disgraced ladies who do nothing more than a
night stand.”
Their talk must not have ended well, Ava thought.
She was stumped when Mason came downstairs via the elevator. Layla wheeled him out of it and didn’t stop until they were in front of Zoe. He said in his husky voice, “You’re not completely recovered. Why are you leaving now?”
Zoe remained quiet.

Ava and Layla exchanged glances and left the room, giving the couple
some space.
Silence hung over the living room.
There was a very subtle affection that traced his eyes when he looked at her and said softly, “You should stay the night, Zoe.”
“It wouldn’t be appropriate.” She walked past him and said softly, “I’ve called for my chauffeur to pick me up here.”
She was adamant about leaving the manor right there and then.
Catching her arms out of pure instinct, he raised his head and looked at her. However, nothing came out of his mouth.

you say I didn’t matter that much to you? Well, then. What’s the oint of me staying the night? Do you want to count me as one of your one-night stands? Let me go, Mason!”
All of a sudden, he noticed her reddened eyes.
She must’ve cried before she came down. It broke his heart to see her like this. Then, his heart softened. In fact, it softened so much that he almost reverted back to his old self, when he loved her the most.
He knew he shouldn’t do it, but he pulled her into his arms. nonetheless.
He couldn nug her with both of his hands, so he held the back of her head with his left arm. Suppressing his feelings and his affection for her, he pleaded with her humbly. “Can you please listen to me, Zoe? You used to listen to me all the time”

Resting her chin on his shoulder, she suddenly recognized the shirt he was wearing now. She had bought it for him in the past.

Another wave of sorrow washed over her. She was sobbing when she spoke, but there was courage in her tone. “You didn’t love me, and you forbade me to love you in the past. Now, however, you love me, but you still forbid me from loving you!
“You’ve always made the call when it came to things between us. You alone decided if we could act like a real, married couple! Two years ago, you said that the agreement was nothing more than a joke and that you were with Gabriela. That’s why I got out of your way and moved to Silvercrest.
“If I hadn’t discovered the truth by myself, then we would’ve missed out on each other for the rest of our lives.”
