Chapter 440
Zoe might have been ready to forgive him, but he could never let himself off the hook.
It was still the middle of the night when Mason went to the ground
floor.
Scarlett was still sitting there. She knew she was in deep trouble because of the horrible blunder she made. So, she grumbled the moment she saw him, “Ms. Zoe has overstepped her bounds, Mr. Mason. It’s wrong to let her handle the manor’s affairs, to begin with.”
His voice was cold as he cast a glance at her. “Who has the right to do it, then?”
Even though he had used Scarlett to chase Zoe away, he had honestly never done anything out of line with his private doctor, nor did he lead
her on.
Scarlett was stunned by his response.
He then said bluntly,
see to it that your medical license will be revoked. You’ll never be a doctor again.
“Also, I want you out of Brookesville! You have two days to do it. I’m very serious. My men will pack up your stuff and send you to one of
the northwestern cities. They’ll keep a close eye on you there.
“They’ll be there when you eat, sleep or go to the restroom.
“They’ll be everywhere.
“With this in mind, I think you’ve learned your lesson and will think carefully before you say or do anything in the future, Scarlett!”
She was utterly stunned.
Tears began to fill her eyes as she pleaded with him, “I spent two decades of my life studying hard just so I could become the
successful doctor I am today. You can’t just end my career because of what Ms. Zoe said. You have to listen to me too…”
His face grew colder. “Be grateful that I’m showing mercy for my kids’ sake. Otherwise, I would’ve had my men break both of your legs here
and now.”
Scarlett was stunned, once again.
She had always fancied that Mason didn’t hate her, even if he didn’t love her. However, she never thought that he’d dish out such a harsh punishment simply because she spooked one of his kids.
She was about to start pleading again when two bodyguards dressed
in black came in.
Mason barked an order and both of them gagged her before dragging her away. A minute later, her bedroom was cleaned out and sanitized Her suitcases were flung
One of the manor as well.
The deed was done, but he felt emptier on the inside. His mind
traveled back to the things Yanni mumbled in her sleep which, in turn conjured up the horrible things he did to Zoe in the past.
It was the Eve of New Year and he had driven past thick pockets of snow on the road. By the time he found her in the private villa, she had been tortured to the brink of death. He didn’t intend to put her through that, but he was undeniably an accomplice.
Zoe almost died by his hand.
Instead of going back upstairs, he sat quietly right where he was.
After a long time, a gentle ray of sunlight broke over the horizon.
Grateful tears filled his eyes as he thanked the heavens for giving Zoe the strength to survive that hellhole.
Zoe didn’t sleep, either.
She waited until dawn rolled on, but Mason didn’t show up at all. Instead, Noah gave her a call.
Both of them remained quiet when their phones were connected. Her voice was husky when she spoke, clearly exhausted. Instead of beating around the bush, she went straight to the point, “Did you get married to Gwynn, Noah?”
Pausing for a brief moment, he responded, “That’s right! We got married about a year ago!”
Her fingers began to tremble at what he said.
In fact, she couldn’t believe what she’d just heard. However, he sounded very firm and absolute on the phone!
She was no saint. She hated Liam too, but she wanted Noah to marry someone out of love, instead of using his wife to execute his revenge
