“Noah!”
Zoe jolted awake. She opened her eyes and it was pitch-black in her
room.
She just had a nightmare about Noah and Gwynn. At first, he treated his wife well, but they ended things on a sour note. They were going. through the same thing as her and Mason, painful and miserable.
Sitting up, she curled up and held herself. She was still trembling to this moment. The dream felt too real.
All of a sudden, someone held her shoulders. Raising her eyes, she saw Mason in the darkness. He was wearing a bathrobe and sitting in a wheelchair. If it wasn’t for the wheelchair, she wouldn’t have been able to tell that there was anything unusual about him.
His voice was gentle. “Yanni’s going to be fine very soon!”
“I know that,” she murmured. Raising her head, she looked at him with a silent plea. She needed to hug him now.
The tough act she put up in daylight had all but come undone at th
moment.
This was the first time she behaved like this. Her voice was both sof and broken. “Can you hold me, Mason?”
His eyes were as dark as night. It was impossible to know what he was thinking.
Just as she thought he was going to leave, he pulled her gently onto his lap and said gently, “I don’t feel anything on my legs. So, don’t worry about hurting me.”

Then, he lowered his head and kissed her. Reaching into her
sleepwear, he groped at her supple breasts.
He did it very carefully and slowly. Only he knew how nervous he was right now. He was worried that she might not feel up to it or even feel downright disgusted by him. After all, he was just a paraplegic and only one of his hands could work.
