Zoe had no idea that Mason’s mind went to a dark place.
She took care of their kids as if everything was normal. Her delicate face was filled with affection as the morning light shone on her. Any man who set sight on her would want to have her as their wife for the
rest of their life.
Yanni was warm and loving. She ate her breakfast enthusiastically.
Jamie, on the other hand, was much colder and aloof. He was close to two years old now. He could have breakfast without any help, but it didn’t seem like he was savoring his food. Instead, it looked more like he was mechanically completing a task.
Picking up a glass of milk, Zoe drank half of it and said warmly, “You were like this too, Mason. You ate everything mechanically and never took a moment to savor its taste.”
“I’m the same now.” Then, he lowered his voice. “I’d much rather savor something more delicious!”
Yanni dug into her casserole and asked with a crisp voice, “What you mean, Dad?”
Zoe kicked him in the shin underneath the table. His legs might no be able to feel anything, but he noticed it. Reaching under the table he grabbed her foot and said to his daughter solemnly, “I’m talking about my work.”
The little girl responded, “Oh. So, that’s what you’re talking about.”
She was going to start school today. So, she happily finished her breakfast and went ahead to monitor Jamie the way a foreman would his technicians.

After breakfast, Luke came over and informed them that the car was
ready!
Zoe went upstairs and took the suit jacket for Mason.
All of them wore formal attire to Yanni’s kindergarten interview. Mason put on a sharp suit and paired it with a crisp white shirt. Zoe, on the other hand, wore a Chanel outfit.
Truth be told, the interview was just a formality.
Mason donated twenty million dollars to the kindergarten. Yanni could’ve done anything there and the school would’ve turned a blind eye. However, she was both pretty and smart. So, the principal loved her a lot and took her to the class without any hesitation.
Then, Zoe and Mason left with Jamie.
On their way back, Luke sighed gratefully and said, “How the time flies! It seemed like yesterday Yanni was just a baby. Now, she’s going to school. In two years, it’ll be Jamie’s turn to go.”
Mason swapped glances with Zoe and smiled.
Luke added, “I’m going to start exercising tomorrow so I can still dri them to campus when they’re old enough to go to college.”
Mason must’ve been too enthralled by the happiness of the momen He spoke before he could think. “Perhaps you guys should move in It’ll be easier to pick up Yanni when school’s over.”
She stared at him, but she didn’t say anything.
He was startled when he realized that he overstepped his bounds. He just loved moments like these so much that he forgot they were only together for a short while..
The happiness would only last a short period.

His face was frozen and she couldn’t bring herself to agree to it. It felt so suffocating in the car that even Luke didn’t dare to say
anything further.
Half an hour later, the black limousine pulled into the manor. The sky looked a little gloomy when they stepped out of the car.
Zoe carried Jamie and went over to open Mason’s car door. He tilted his head and said gently, “I’m going to smoke a cigarette. You should head up with Jamie first.”
She couldn’t help but say, “It’s going to rain, Mason!”
“I’m aware of that!”
Taking a packet of cigarettes out of the glove compartment, he unwrapped it with a single hand and put a cigarette between his lips. He tilted his head again after he lit it up and said lightly, “The nurses can take care of me.”
Then, he flashed her a faint smile.
There was a hint of arrogance in it and it rubbed her the wrong way but she decided to let it go and headed into the manor with Jamie.
He closed the car door after she left Raising his head, he leaned on the leather seat and smoked absentmindedly.
Wisps of smoke lingered in the car.
At the next moment, he coughed lightly.
