She didn’t send a thank-you text or make a call. She just accepted this gesture.

Zoe looked up at Mason.

After a while, he walked to her side and sat down. His gaze shifted from the cake to Zoe’s face, his voice surprisingly gentle. “Why didn’t you tell me about your birthday in advance? The housekeeper prepared a bowl of pasta for you at noon, but I ate it. Now, let’s eat the cake together and celebrate your birthday.”

“Mason.”

Zoe knew him well. She looked at him, her lips trembling slightly.

Mason smiled faintly.

He reached out, gently caressing her red lips. His long fingers carried a hint of licentiousness.

He spoke softly after thoroughly enjoying the touch. “The cake from Cecil should taste good.”

He asked again, “Do you like him?”

Zoe closed her eyes gently. “No. Mason, I don’t.”

Mason continued to smile lightly.

His voice was low and hoarse as he murmured, “I’m just curious. Why are you so nervous? Ms. Lockwood, I believe you wouldn’t do anything to betray me. Otherwise, I really don’t know who I would take my anger out on. I don’t want to hurt you, but if it involves Cecil, you might feel a pang of heartache.”

Zoe was on the verge of collapse. “Mason, what do you want?”

As the words fell, he lifted her and placed her on the bed.

Zoe wanted to resist, but he gently pulled, effortlessly stripping off

her hospital gown. He skillfully bound her injured arm, preventing her from hurting herself in the struggle.

The dark-colored bed sheet contrasted with her snow-white body.

Mason admired her under the light. He had always loved this body of hers.

He didn’t treat her roughly.

With a calm and methodical approach, he stared at her delicate face as if trying to see every inch of her clearly.

Moreover, he whispered in her ear, uttering vulgar words that made Zoe feel unbearable.

“The first time you felt this was three months after our marriage. Despite the way I treated you, your body still reacted. I wish I could show you how you looked back then. You were so alluring.”

He wouldn’t let anyone see her like that, especially not Cecil.

Zoe felt ashamed and embarrassed. He tormented her, her face blushing, displaying a woman’s charm. She didn’t want Mason to see it, burying her face deep into the pillow.

Mason lowered his head, his black eyes fixated on the woman beneath him. His gaze wasn’t driven by physical desire.

He sarcastically commented, “Enjoying yourself, Ms. Lockwood?”

Zoe kept her eyes tightly shut. She showed signs of resistance, and her voice broke. “Mason, we shouldn’t be doing this.”

Mason sneered. “Shouldn’t be doing this? We already did.

He withdrew, his eyes fixed on Zoe lying on the pillow, her lips slightly open. Her voice sounded raspy and surprisingly sexy. “Mason, what’s

wrong?”

Mason, in her presence, zipped up his pants.

He reached out to touch her face, his voice low and chillingly cold. Ms. Lockwood, remember this feeling. Savor the taste of wanting something you can’t have. I hope you feel it deep within you.”

Zoe’s body was ice-cold.

Everything that had just happened wasn’t a result of physical desire. It was Mason’s punishment for her.

All because of that cake.

It was simply because Cecil sent her a cake.

Mason treated her the same way he used to, conquering her body and then watching her sink into the unbearable longing.

Three years later, he hadn’t changed at all.

And neither had she…
