Rose’s POV

I went into the room I shared with Jayden in a daze. Jayden was by my side immediately I opened the door.

“What was that about, Ro. Why was she in pain?” He asked curiously and I burst into tears again. I could not get the image of her battered body out of my head and I felt like I failed as a mother.

“I’ve failed as a mother, Jay. Adrian has disgraced me and I’m not worthy of being called a mother“, i said amidst tears. Jayden led me towards our bed and held me till my tears subsided.

“Adrian was having sex with another woman. That’s why Lola was in pain“, I said softly into his shoulder and felt his body. stiffen in anger at my words.

“Everybody knows what happens when you have sex with another person when you have a mate. What’s wrong with him?” He said in anger and I cried again.

“Hey, hey, look at me baby“, he held my face delicately in his. hands and made me look him in the eyes, “I’ll talk some sense into him when he gets back home, you don’t need to beat yourself up over that. Lola is fine now, no?” He asked me lovingly and I felt like my heart was being crushed.

I felt Ezra trying to rise to the surface, the maternal instinct to protect a child in danger overwhelming her. Jayden looked at me intently, waiting for me to explain more.

“There’s more, Jay. I saw things in that room and if Adrian. were not my son, I’d have had him banished or killed“, I wailed. I knew I was getting Jayden worried but I couldn’t help the way I felt inside.

“You can talk to me, my love. You’re worrying me, I’m not

going to lie. I haven’t seen you this way since……well since that incident“, he said softly.

Looking into his eyes, I spoke. “You want to know what I really saw? You’re not going to go out there right now and kill Adrian, promise?” He nodded his head eagerly and I sighed before speaking again.

“She’s been abused, Jay“, I hiccuped as I spoke, “her body was filled with bruises and scars“, I felt my tears dam trying to

break again but I reigned it in.

“The freshest one is a big, purple bruise on her stomach. She got it from her former mate“. At the mention of a former mate, Jay’s eyes widened, “former mate? She had a mate before Adrian?” He asked in shock.

“Yeah, the one that came the other day from Moonlit pack“, I nodded my head. Shock was evident on Jayden’s face and he was at a loss for words.

“Why did Adrian let him go? Why was I not informed? As the Alpha King, I have the responsibility to protect all pack werewolves and Adrian let him go?” He said angrily, slightly

“She rejected him and that’s why she ran to our pack. Adrian is her second chance mate and he’s been treating her the same way, save the beatings“, I sighed as I remembered how her scars covered her body.

There was barely any clear skin, it was all bruised and battered.

“Another purple bruise was already forming where the other one was. Adrian added to her pain instead of relieving her of it“, my tears dam broke and I wept uncontrollably.

That pain is something any lady wouldn’t wish on their enemy and she already went through it twice. “She did not ask me what was going on or why she felt that way, she already knew Jay. She knew already and she was ready to brace it“,

“She did not want me to see her body, that’s why she wears clothes that cover most of her skin. She’s broken and I am not surprised she’s wary around everyone. I wonder what she did to her old pack to deserve such treatment“. Jayden was silent as I said everything I saw but I could see him trying to reign in his anger by clenching and unclenching his jaw.

“Let’s go to sleep, Ro. We’re going to figure all of these out in the morning“, Jayden said as he laid me on the bed and laid down beside me.

I did not protest and held him close to my body. I could not imagine a life where Jayden made me cry or feel small. With a lot on my mind, I fell asleep restlessly.

I woke up in the early hours of the morning and gently slid off the bed to go and check on Lola. She was still sleeping

peacefully and I watched her for a moment before I left. Her fever had gone down also.

Her cheeks looked so sunken and she looked like she was barely holding on. I wanted to hug her and tell her everything will be alright but I refrained from doing so, I did not want to wake her nor make things awkward. She isn’t comfortable around people yet.

I went into the kitchen to make her breakfast so she can have something to eat when she wakes up. I’d feel so

uncomfortable if she had to help me in the kitchen with what I had seen the night before.

I made a variety of foods. From bacon to toasts to eggs to pancakes. I made a lot of food even though she wasn’t going to eat a lot. I’ve noticed that since yesterday, Julie also told me the same thing when I asked her about the first time they met yesterday.

I cut up a lot of fruit for her. I was determined to take care of her and treat her like a daughter no matter the decision. Adrian takes.

I was making soup when I heard the front door open. I knew who it was before I heard him. Ezra took over my body before I knew it, her mother wolf instinct taking over.

Adrian came towards the kitchen where I was cooking. He had the guts to smile at me and I saw red. How dare he be happy when he just put his mate through hell?

I turned off the cooking gas and moved towards where he was standing by the kitchen door.

“Good morning, M…….“, he did not finish his sentence before a loud noise was heard.

I had slapped him and it felt so good to see his face contort in pain and shock.
