“I just heard them say that your mother–in–law seems to be on her last legs…”

Upon hearing these words, Claudia’s heart sank to the bottom of the valley.
Although she had been mentally prepared for a long time, she was still at a loss when the moment of truth finally arrived.
“I am going now.”
Claudia hurriedly changed into a set of lightweight dark clothes and
headed out.
Horace’s mother happened to be waiting outside the door. She saw Claudia leaving without even looking back, furrowing her brows. She said to Horace, “Clearly divorced and still so concerned about another family, carrying someone else’s child in her belly. I can see that this girl doesn’t care about you at all.”
“I never really cared.” Horace smiled, his eyes cool and clear. “It has always been unrequited love from my side.”
Upon hearing these words, Horace’s mother’s breath caught, and her face immediately darkened. “Unrequited love, you actually have unrequited love for a woman like her?”
“How come you’ve fallen in love with her so quickly after just a few days in Wyvernport?” The mother, who hadn’t seen her son in a relationship for years, had once doubted if he even liked women.
When she found out that he had developed feelings for Seraphina, she
not only didn’t mind, but actually felt very happy about it. Even though this woman had been divorced, she was not a traditional person, and her family valued the benefits that would come from the union of the two families.
But later it was revealed that Claudia was pregnant and involved with several men, which crossed her bottom line.
The Ferguson family never allowed others to raise children in their home.
Horace remained silent, his eyes flickered briefly, offering no explanation

Outside the hotel, when Edmond drove out of the underground parking lot in his Maybach, Claudia happened to come out as well.
The car stopped in front of Claudia, the car window rolled down, revealing Edmond’s handsome and charming face.
“Get in the car.”
Without hesitation, Claudia opened the door and sat inside.
“How is mom?” Claudia asked anxiously, her heart pounding.
Just then, Edmond’s phone rang, and he immediately answered it on speakerphone.
“Edmond…”
The weak voice belonged to Cicely!
Claudia widened her eyes.
“Mom, don’t worry, I was already on my way.”
Edmond’s usually steady voice trembled.
“Was Claudia by your side?”
Cicely’s voice was intermittent, but her pronunciation was clear, indicating that she was clearly forcing herself.
Claudia shouted anxiously, “I’m here, I’m here, Mom, hold on, we’ll be there soon.
“Claudia, I have a favor to ask you,” Cicely said, her voice becoming breathless over the phone.
“Okay, go ahead and speak, I promise I will agree to everything!”
The car was moving quickly, but the weather was not cooperating. There were red lights all the way. Edmond pursed his lips, and the anxiety in his eyes seemed to burst out.

Claudia also became anxious, her eyes welling up with tears, as she listened to her grandmother’s wheezing voice, clearly struggling to
breathe.
“Claudia, I may have to break my previous words… I want to beg you, after I die, please take care of Edmond for me. I’m sorry, Claudia, but Edmond is truly a pitiful child, and I just can’t bear to leave him alone…” Cicely choked up and started crying halfway through her words. As she approached death, she reflected on her life, and the one thing she couldn’t let go of was her son, the one she felt she owed the
most to.
She had been biased for half of her life. After Tristen and her husband pa**ed away, she even poured all her anger and hatred onto this youngest son.
Realizing only at the moment of death, but it was already too late.
Even though Claudia had promised not to interfere in their affairs, she broke her word at this moment.
Upon hearing Cicely’s words, Claudia’s expression froze for a moment. She glanced at Edmond’s stiff face in the rearview mirror and remained silent for a long time.
She didn’t want to agree originally, but this was Cicely’s request, or even one could say her last wish.
Claudia’s eyes turned red, and she choked out, “Okay, I promise you.
“I know, after I die, you will be the only one in this world who loves him the most…” Cicely said, and then she hung up the phone, gasping for breath.
Claudia clenched her fingers into a fist, and her lips tightened into a thin line.
She dared not look at Edmond’s expression in the rearview mirror, only hoping to arrive early and see her mother–in–law for the last time.
The locals believe that after a person’s death, they must have descendants to perform the final rites. The only descendants of the mother–in–law are Edmond and Abel, and Abel is definitely still in school.
Edmond raced past the critical point of breaking traffic rules and finally arrived at the hospital.
Just as the two of them got out of the car, a hurried voice called out “Claudia” in their ears.
A person wearing a duckbill cap and a mask walked toward them.
“Are you Claudia?” The person’s voice was devoid of any emotion.
Claudia took a closer look and saw that it was a girl. She couldn’t see her face clearly, but she was holding a black bag in her arms. Claudia wondered what was inside the bag.
“I am,” Claudia nodded, then anxiously said to her, “I’m sorry, I have something urgent now. Can we talk about it later?”
Although I didn’t know this person, she was still polite. There is nothing more important than a mother–in–law’s matters now.
Just as she took a few steps toward the entrance of the hospital, the girl with the duckbill cap stopped her and firmly questioned, “The child in your belly is not Pedro’s!”
Claudia frowned and ignored her, walking past her.
Just then, the girl burst into laughter and reached her hand into the black bag.
Claudia’s heart sank suddenly.
“Be careful!” Edmond exclaimed coldly.
Immediately, Edmond’s body pressed against her.
With a loud bang, something exploded.
Everything fell silent…
“Ah!”
“It was a bomb!”
Screams echoed through the sky, and people hurriedly moved around at the entrance of the hospital.
After an unknown period of time, Claudia was awakened by the sound of an ambulance. She struggled to open her eyes, but her vision was blurred by blood.
“Edmond…”
She struggled to hold her body up and tried to catch a glimpse of the person beside her, but all she saw was a figure covered in blood.
The second Claudia lost consciousness, tears streamed down her face

In an inconspicuous neighborhood, Rosalie walked into a room wearing a mask and fully armed.
This is a small pa**ageway, although the house is small, it is fully equipped, and the sofa and furniture are neatly arranged.
On the sofa, there lay a man in pajamas, with messy shoulder–length hair, leisurely smoking. When Rosalie walked in, he turned his head and blew out a smoke ring.
“What a rare visitor! I thought you would never come again.”
He sneered, with his hair on both sides covering his face tightly. Even though only half of his face could be seen, it was evident that he had a good appearance.
Rosalie put down her bag and said coldly, “Cicely died.”
The man’s hand trembled as he held the cigarette.
Smoke filled the room as Rosalie nonchalantly walked over to him and plopped down on the couch, “Last time I told you she had cancer, you
didn’t believe me. Now that she’s dead, you finally believe, right?”
The man remained silent, puffing on his cigarette one after another.
Rosalie turned on the television and on it, the latest trending news was being reported.
When Rosalie saw Edmond blocking the bomb for Claudia, she could no longer hold back her tears and they finally burst out at that moment.
“You were so silly…”
