Chapter 24 Edmond Can’t Protect You
There was a horrible scar from the eye to the nose on his weathered face. After he took off the sungla**es, the scar was eye-catching.
His smile made it look more conspicuous and eviler.
“Why do you think it is Thomas who asks you here?”
Thomas was not exactly the kind of person who would have tea with her.
He reminded her with a mean smile by saying, “It is Mr. Clayton who wants to see you.”
“Mr. Clayton? Dempsey Clayton?” she wondered.
Claudia frowned after hearing this name. She had a bad feeling.
The Clayton family was wealthy, and there were lots of stories about Dempsey.
It was said that Dempsey succeeded from scratch, and now he was in his fifties and had been in jail many times.
He denied that. But everyone knew he was a cruel man.
When Rosalie was a teenager, she was pestered by a boy. Dempsey cut that boy’s hands and got away with it.
From then on, no one dared to bully Rosalie.
There were many similar stories in the Clayton family.

The car came into the villa. Claudia took out her phone, only to find there was no signal here.
She had got messages from Waldron and Edmond.

After she got out of the car, she was forced to walk forward by two bodyguards.
When she walked into the villa, she saw Dempsey sitting on a huge sofa and holding a cup of tea.
Dempsey was bold. He wore a black vest shirt. There was a dragon tattoo on his arm with a big horrible mouth.
“Ms. Lloyd, please have a seat.” Although Dempsey was smiling, he looked awful.
“Are you Waldron’s friend?” He kept smiling.
Claudia shook her head. “No.”
“Then why did he break the cooperation between the two families for you? Ms. Lloyd, I don’t like people lying to me.”

When Claudia heard his meaningful words, her heart sank.

It was incredible for Dempsey to figure out why the cooperation failed
so soon.
But now she was in his place. If she told the truth, Dempsey might do harm to her.
So, she couldn’t tell the truth. She had no choice.
“Mr. Clayton, I don’t know what you are talking about.” She calmed herself down and pursed her lips. “I’ve only seen Waldron a couple of times. The cooperation has nothing to do with me.”
“I don’t expect that Rosalie would offend you, Ms. Lloyd, who is Edmond’s wife and Waldron’s rumored girlfriend.” He lit a cigarette and blew out some smoke slowly.
The cigarette smelled weird, which made Claudia step back.
Dempsey saw her move and smiled deeply. He signed the bodyguard in. “Give her a cigarette. Have a try, Ms. Lloyd.”
Claudia frowned. “No, thanks. I don’t smoke.”
“How could you not smoke? From now on, you smoke.” He gritted his teeth and uttered.
Claudia looked at the strange cigarette, her heart beating fast.
She could smoke. The thing was, she was not sure about the composition of it.
She thought, “As Dempsey knew why the cooperation failed, he must make me pay for it.”
“Ms. Lloyd, as Waldron is willing to interrupt the cooperation for the
sake of you, you must have ways to make him continue the cooperation, right?”
“It is related to the Clayton family’s future. I could ignore what you have done before, but you must convince the Friedan family to cooperate with us.”
He said with firmness.
The bodyguard lit a cigarette.
It made Claudia a little dizzy.
The cigarette was surely not a common one!
Claudia bit her lips hard to maintain calm.
She looked at Dempsey, gritting her teeth, and said, “Mr. Clayton, the failure of the cooperation has nothing to do with me, and I can’t help you with it.”
Ervin has said that the Friedan family wouldn’t cooperate with the Clayton family anymore. He had his thoughts.
“You sure you are not going to help me?” Dempsey stood up, and his face darkened.
He had figured out why Waldron interrupted the cooperation. He thought this young girl would be too scared to lie to him. But to his surprise, she dared to fight with him.
“Ms. Lloyd, you have no families. Edmond is going to divorce you, and his family won’t protect you. And you are still going to be against me?”
He wanted to convince her.
Claudia didn’t speak. She sat straight on the sofa.
Her long hair was pinned up with a few down to her shoulders, which made her face more delicate.
Dempsey thought, “She has a pretty face, no wonder Waldron helped
her.
She’s a great girl.
But she’s going to be destroyed by me. Too bad.”
She refused to help, and he wanted to kill her.
He thought, “How dare she refuse me!”
“Waldron interrupted the cooperation with me for the sake of you. And even if I cut your hand, Edmond would not do anything to me.” In his opinion, Claudia could only rely on Edmond.
Waldron was not important, because she would never marry into the Friedan family. All she could do was to become Waldron’s mistress.
His patience ran out.
Dempsey stood up and said to the bodyguard next to him, “Take them in. Have fun with Ms. Lloyd.”
The bodyguard nodded and left.
The door opened. A total of five men, led by the one with the scar, walked in, laughing.
As they approached, they took off their coats and threw them on the floor.
It had been a long time since they had done it.

The trees outside the window went back quickly. The wheels were spinning in a crazy way.
She was thinking.
She knew how her father would deal with Claudia.
The method was mean but useful.
Those victim girls would not say it out, and they would beg Rosalie’s father to keep it a secret.
But when she thought of Edmond’s promise, Rosalie wanted to save Claudia soon.
Only in this way would Edmond be willing to marry Rosalie.
If something bad happened to Claudia, Edmond might never divorce her.
She knew herself, and she knew Edmond.
