Chapter 243 Backing Up Arlene
At the Johnson’s manor, Sienna, arm in arm with Claudia, walked out the door laughing: “Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go. Dad gave me a card and told me to take you shopping. Such a great opportunity, we must make him spend a lot today.”
After last night, Dalton gave her a credit card with no spending limit, asking her to take Claudia shopping. Having just finished breakfast, Sienna left with her dear cousin.
“Eh, why is there someone arguing at the door?” Sienna widened her eyes, about to call the security to check, but Claudia stopped her in time.
“Was my friend.
It was Arlene and Dempsey.
Arlene seemed unable to hold back her anger and started arguing with Dempsey on the spot. In the nearby BMW, the driver sat awkwardly, unsure whether to leave or stay.
“Mr. Clayton, this is at the entrance of the Johnson’s manor, the security guard is already walking towards us, shall we leave first?”
The driver looked at the approaching security guards and steeled himself to persuade them.
The background of the Johnson family was not just business-oriented, but also political. The security guards here were all tall and strong, at least they were retired special forces. If they continued to stay, they would not only lose face, but they might also get hurt.
The driver’s reminder jolted Dempsey awake.
He didn’t come over today to argue, he was so upset just now that he almost forgot what was important.
“If you don’t want anything to happen to your grandmother, help me one last time,” Dempsey’s voice softened. “I know you have savings, but if your grandmother is kicked out of the hospital, it won’t be so
easy to get back in line.”
Arlene’s face turned pale with anger.
The matter of my grandmother’s hospitalization was still handled by Dempsey through his connections. If she were to be discharged, the waiting time for the next admission would be at least half a month.
My grandmother’s illness didn’t last for half a month.
Aiming for the snake’s seven inches, Dempsey had seized her biggest weakness.
Arlene bit her lower lip, tears swirling in her eyes.
Dempsey might have been indifferent to her, but she couldn’t just stand by and watch her grandmother get into trouble!
“I’m not close with Seraphina,” Arlene said, nearly dropping a tear as her words fell.
Dempsey’s face fell, looking extremely upset, “She came over the last time you called her, and now you’re telling me you’re not close with her?”
“Mr. Clayton…” a refined voice interrupted.
Arlene suddenly looked at the newcomer, murmuring, “Seraphina…”
Upon seeing Claudia, Dempsey immediately put on a pleasing expression.
Claudia glanced at Arlene, and with the words she had just heard, she had somewhat guessed in her heart.
The last time Arlene invited her over, she had explained to herself that it was Dempsey who was looking for her. At that time, when she proposed “five million”, it was indeed out of respect for Arlene.
Arlene had helped her a lot, if Arlene asked for her help, she wouldn’t refuse.
But she hadn’t expected that Arlene would be so principled, preferring to confront Dempsey rather than let him manipulate her. She admired
this kind of character and was also grateful for her protection.
“Ms. Friedan, I have already considered the matter of borrowing money that you mentioned last time,” Dempsey immediately took out a card from his bag and handed it to her, “There are five million in it, not a penny less.”
Seeing Dempsey like this, Arlene’s face turned red all the way to the base of her neck, and she simply turned her head away, refusing to look at her thick-skinned father.
“Borrow money? When did you run out of money?” Sienna didn’t know the whole story, she only heard the words “borrow money” and H ooked at Claudia with a worried face. “If you’re short of money, just
tell me, there’s no need to go to outsiders.”
The two words “outsider” hit Dempsey’s face like a heavy hammer.
Arlene was right, if Seraphina really needed money, she could borrow from anyone, she didn’t have to borrow from him.
Seeing Claudia’s indifferent expression, Dempsey’s heart sank to the bottom.
He missed such a good opportunity last time. This time, he swallowed his pride to seek Seraphina, who might not appreciate it.
Just when he had no expectations, Claudia reached out and took the
card.
“Since you’re ready, I won’t hold back then.” Claudia said, taking it with a smile. This action, however, made Dempsey overjoyed.
“Before that, our celebration…”
“Do we have any issues?” Claudia raised her eyebrows, her smile noncommittal. “Mr. Clayton, as long as you treat Arlene right, we won’t have any problems.”
Dempsey’s expression froze, staring blankly at his own daughter.
This was a warning, but also a reminder.
Unexpectedly, Seraphina was so protective of her own daughter. This time, calling Arlene was indeed the right decision.
Arlene’s eyes were getting redder and redder, these words were really bolstering her!
Although the two had little in common, Seraphina still gave her full respect.
Watching Arlene give her a grateful smile, Claudia pinched the card and curved her lips.
She was not a saint, nor a good person, just an eye for an eye. Besides, the five million that Dempsey didn’t have to pay back was quite good, no one would have a problem with money.
Dempsey was merely afraid that she would use the organization to
suppress him. She wouldn’t be that petty. As long as he didn’t plan on bringing Rosalie into this, she could still give him a verbal a**urance.
Having settled everything, Dempsey joyfully returned home with Arlene.
Claudia and Arianna arrived at the mall, randomly picked a few bags, but when Arianna wanted to pay, Claudia beat her to it.
She swiped the card that Dempsey had given her.
“Money picked up, why not use it if it’s free?” Before Arianna could get angry, Claudia waved the card in her hand and simply explained, “Although it’s borrowed money, this money doesn’t need to be repaid.”
Upon hearing this, Arianna’s expression gradually softened, “You shouldn’t have paid, otherwise I’ll get scolded when I go back.”
Claudia grinned, affectionately holding Arianna’s hand and said, “I haven’t been to Vencumfield often, and I do like you. Consider this bag as my token of respect.”
Arianna nodded with a smile, “You sure know how to talk, you little rascal.”
“Well then, I won’t stand on ceremony,” she said. Just as she was about to grab a bag next to her, another hand took it away.
“I want this.” The person, holding the bag, headed towards the counter. By the counter, there stood a middle-aged man in a suit.
Upon seeing that man, Arianna cried out in surprise, “Uncle!”
Claudia looked up and realized that the man was none other than Thomas.
Thomas was still in Vencumfield, surprisingly!
Taking another look at the woman holding a bag next to him, it was such a coincidence, it was Felicia!
Upon seeing Arianna, Thoma s’s face turned awkward. He didn’t expect to run into someone he knew in such a place.
“Arianna, what are you doing here?” No sooner had Thoma s’s words fallen than he saw Claudia, not far away, smiling at him.
Thoma s’s face turned pale and then flushed instantly.
Having been caught in such embarra**ing situations by his own daughter time and again, Thomas immediately lost face.
Felicia, on the other hand, remained calm.
Today was the day she specifically asked Thomas to take her out shopping, as a compensation for last night.
The Johnson family had humiliated Thomas, she just needed to add fuel to the fire, and she could completely separate Thomas and Emily.
Seeing Thomas standing with another woman, a fire ignited in Arianna’s heart immediately. She walked up to Felicia and slapped her hard, “Sl ut! Is it so glorious to be someone else’s mistress?”
The news of Thoma s’s infidelity at yesterday’s party had already spread. She didn’t want to interfere in adult matters, but upon seeing this woman, she immediately stood up for her aunt.
Felicia covered her face and remained silent, while Thomas stood in front of her, warning Arianna, “Arianna, she’s just my subordinate, not a mistress.”
