Chapter 5 Is This What You Wanted?
Large tears rolled down Rosalie’s face. “Edmond, see? She’s always like this, causing harm to others but acting innocent, pretending as if she’s the victim.”
Edmond looked at Rosalie’s wound. Recalling what his a**istant told him, his brows furrowed severely.
Rosalie was the Clayton family’s only daughter. At the funeral, when Claudia blamed Rosalie, her words reached the Claytons ears. He heard they were preparing to sue Claudia,
And with a wound like this, searring was highly likely. The Clayton family certainly wouldn’t just let it go.
Thinking of the Clayton family’s methods, Edmond frowned slightly.
He looked at Claudia, his gaze growing colder. “Apologize.”
“What did you say?”
Apologize?
Claudia couldn’t believe her ears. “It was clearly her own fault for crashing into…”
“If not for you, she wouldn’t have crashed into the fish tank.” Edmond’s eyes darkened. His tone was icy cold.
So he had seen what happened.
Was she supposed to not dodge and let Rosalie bully her instead?
This was blatant favoritism.

Claudia’s heart shook violently. She gradually turned to look at Edmond. For the first time, she felt his handsome features were frighteningly unfamiliar.
She looked at Edmond as if looking at an executioner. “What if I don’t apologize?”
“Then you’ll never be able to leave the Lamont’s place again.” Edmond’s tone was indifferent as if stating something perfectly ordinary.
This held two implications.
One was that Claudia could forget about divorcing him. Her life would be worse than death. The other was that the Lamont family would take revenge on her forever.
She really hadn’t expected Edmond could be so ruthless.
Claudia felt as if her heart had been slashed open, and the wind would rush in with every breath, cold and painful.
The might of the Lamont family and the Clayton family was something she truly could not contend against.
After all, she was merely a loner, wasn’t she?
She looked at Edmond with bloodshot eyes, resolute.
“Fine, I apologize.”
She suddenly laughed.
As she laughed, she cried.
“Rosalie, I’m sorry.”

But in her heart, she was saying, “Grandma, I’m sorry. Your granddaughter is useless for letting you die wrongfully.
“Grandma, I’m sorry. I will definitely avenge you.”
Every word of her apology was like a steel knife piercing her or ga ns.
Only pain this dull seemed to be able to make her sober.
“Claudia, you can’t cry! You can’t cry in front of this ba stard couple!” Claudia said to herself.
She clenched her lips tightly, confronting the teardrops in her eyes.
No longer able to remain, she stag gered away. Just then, someone walked in from outside.
“Ms. Lloyd.”
It was the caregiver in her work uniform, gentle-faced.
“Didn’t you say you personally saw Rosalie anger your grandmother to death?” Edmond’s voice came from behind, as frigid as an icy pond, piercing to the bone. “Then confront each other directly.”
What did this mean?
Could it be he was truly willing to get justice for Eleanor?
Claudia’s heart thumped violently.
“Will you believe her words?” she asked Edmond.
As long as he was willing to believe the caregiver’s words, then there was hope of avenging Eleanor.
Edmond didn’t answer her. He just turned his head and asked the caregiver, “You said Rosalie angered Eleanor to death?”

Claudia could hear her own heartbeat. Her heart seemed about to leap out of her throat.
She looked at the similarly nervous caregiver, gently rea**uring her, “Don’t be afraid. Repeat what you told me last time.”
As if encouraged, the caregiver took a deep breath. Her face flushed as she said, “No, I never said that.”
Claudia’s heart instantly sank to the bottom.
“You clearly told me last time that after Rosalie left, my grandmother collapsed. Why are you changing your words now?”
“Ms. Lloyd, I never said anything like that at all. What is there to change?”
Rosalie’s smugness, Edmond’s coldness, the caregiver’s words. It was like a basin of cold water had been poured over Claudia.
“Is someone threatening you?” Claudia tried hard to stay calm.
The caregiver shook her head with a mournful expression, “No one is threatening me, Ms. Lloyd. Please don’t force me to accuse Ms. Clayton. I really can’t do something that goes against my conscience. I also can’t afford to offend the Clayton family… Please spare me, Ms. Lloyd…”
The caregiver bowed deeply to Claudia.
Claudia suddenly felt cold, from her soles to her thighs, from her fingertips to her shoulder blades.
She stared at the caregiver until her eyes grew sore. But the latter only avoided her gaze, not speaking again.

It seemed the caregiver had no intention of telling the truth anymore.
No wonder Rosalie and Edmond dared bring the caregiver here to confront her. They had arranged this trap carly on, just waiting for her to fall into it.
Claudia looked at Edmond, eyes bloodshot. “Is this what you wanted?”
The caregiver’s betrayal meant one less piece of evidence for her to identify Rosalie.
“You must have given quite a lot in hush money.”
Claudia’s words frightened the caregiver so much that her legs went soft and she almost kneeled down.
“Ms. Lloyd, watch what you say. I didn’t take any money. Rather, you should stop trying to falsely accuse Ms. Clayton.”
“Claudia, are you planning to make a full confession?” Hiding to the side, Rosalie trembled with anger.
Just then, Clyde walked in and swiftly bandaged Rosalie and Edmond.
Claudia knew staying here would be fruitless.
She looked at the caregiver and saw no guilt on her face. She had a rough guess in her heart.
Money makes the mare go, let alone it’s the Clayton family, one of the top five families in the city.
Seeking favor and avoiding harm was a human instinct.
Claudia didn’t blame the caregiver for choosing Rosalie’s side. She only blamed herself for being helpless and isolated.

But people won’t always remain at rock bottom.
The Clayton family also won’t remain on high forever.
Claudia suddenly straightened her back. She strode out.
Watching her departing figure, Rosalie inexplicably felt a twinge of
uncase.
She suddenly recalled a saying: People are most fearful when they have nothing because they have nothing left to lose.
The outdoor sunlight was glaring. Though it was an early winter’s sunny day, it was even more scorching than summer.
A flashy Lamborghini was parked outside the villa.
“Claudia!” The person in the Lamborghini suddenly waved at her. Seeing she didn’t react, he got out of the car and walked over.
The man had striking features. He even wore diamond earrings, very eye-catching.
“Remember me?” As if afraid she had forgotten him, he emphasized with a grin, “I’m Waldron.”
Claudia pressed her lips together without speaking. She had of course recognized he was the man from the bar.
Not wanting to get involved with him, Claudia’s mouth curved slightly as she walked away.
Waldron seemed to know what she was thinking. He followed right after her.
“I know you don’t like Rosalie. I hate her too. How about we join forces?”
Claudia stopped in her tracks. “Join forces?”
Sure enough, she cared a lot about Rosalie.
Delight reached Waldron’s eyes. “I found out Rosalie is looking for a lawyer recently. She wants to sue you for slander and false
accusations. Even if you two meet in court, with the Clayton family’s connections, the one going to jail will likely be you.”
His words made Claudia’s heart sink.
The law emphasized evidence. Right now, she didn’t have irrefutable evidence against Rosalie. But Rosalie could make use of the Clayton family’s money and power to make things difficult for her instead.
Lawsuits and finding evidence required money and connections, but those were exactly what she lacked most right now.
She looked at Waldron. H oar sely, she asked in the face of his solemn gaze, “What do you have in mind for cooperation?”
