Chapter 139
This time, she touched him more gently.
Mr. Sniper had attractive and well–defined facial features. If it weren’t for the scar on his
right cheek, his appearance would definitely rival that of any male celebrity.
Her hand glided delicately back and forth on the scar.
“Are
you afraid?” In the darkness, Mr. Sniper’s voice sounded slightly nervous. He
gulped and managed to say only these three words.
Sherry shook her head. “I’m not afraid. The scar is not your fault. The fault lies with the
person who harmed you.”
Mr. Sniper caressed her black, silky hair and sighed with contentment. “Sherry, go to
sleep.”
“Are you tired?”
“Not tired, just worried that you might be tired”
Sherry softly murmured in agreement and obediently lay down in his arms, closing her
eyes.
Actually, she wasn’t tired. She had been at home all day without the internet or
television. Besides cooking, she could only sleep. She didn’t feel sleepy at all now.
But she knew that Mr. Sniper had scars not only on his face but also in his heart. The
emotional wounds in his heart were far more indelible than the ones on his face. Whent
faced with something they didn’t want to confront, people would subconsciously
choose to escape. Mr. Sniper didn’t want to mention the origin of the scar on his face,
just as she didn’t want to mention the day she was kicked out of her home by Violet and
Malcolm.
Her clothes were scattered all over the floor, covered in dust. Like her, they were dirty
and unwanted by others.
Perhaps it was the warmth of Mr. Sniper’s embrace that made her feel so comfortable.
Even though she wasn’t very sleepy, she quickly fell into a deep sleep.
In a hazy state, the warmth beside her slowly faded away. Mr. Sniper had already gotten
- up.
Was it already morning? She was about to open her eyes and take a look when he
kissed her eyelids.
Mr. Sniper whispered softly in her ear, “Sherry, today is another new day.”
Yes, a new day. Forget about all the unhappiness from before and look forward.
This was the third lesson that Mr. Sniper taught her, and she would remember it firmly
When she woke up again, the sun was already high up in the sky.
The curtains in the room blocked the sunlight, and the room remained dark and quiet.
She slowly sat up, pulled the curtains, and the brilliant sunlight shone on the entire bed,
making it too bright for her to open her eyes.
Although it was dazzling, it was warm and cozy.
Are you awake?”

Sherry was startled and instinctively hugged the blanket tightly, cautiously looking
toward the living room.
A familiar figure sat on the sofa in the living room, holding a remote control, and
watched a soccer game, but his mind was clearly not on the game.
“Pregnancy is such a precious time, and you only wake up now? You made me wait.”
Sherry got out of bed, grabbed a coat from the wardrobe as quickly as possible, and
subconsciously searched for her phone.
“Are you looking for your phone? Don’t bother; it’s with me.‘ Malcolm shook the phone
in his hand. “You were still asleep just now, and I used your fingerprint to unlock it. But,
Sherry, your world is really exciting. Not only do you have Mateo, but also that masked
man; his name is Sniper, right?”
Sherry angrily asked, “How did you get in?”
“I have my ways.”

Malcolm stood up. He was dressed very casually today, wearing a blue polo shirt with
5/8
matching sports pants and even wearing a sports wristwatch, which was very different
from his usual style.
“Sherry, I think I already know who Mr. Sniper is.”
Sherry shook her head, her face tense. “I don’t want to hear about this. Please leave.”
Malcolm remained unfazed, with a slight smile on his lips. “Sherry, don’t rush to kick me
out. Since I can come to see you today, I can come in the future as well. Won’t it be
better if we discuss everything at once and get it over with?”
Sherry’s heart sank.
Room 2307 at the Hilton Hotel had two ways to unlock it. One was fingerprint
recognition, and both Mr. Sniper and her fingerprints were already registered, so no one
else could use their fingerprints to open it.
The other way was with a room card. Only the management of the Hilton Hotel had the
room cards.
After the farce that happened in front of the Civil Affairs Bureau last time, Sherry had
become much more cautious when dealing with Malcolm. Flatly refusing might anger
him. At least last time, it happened in a public area, but this time it was in a hotel room.
She was a pregnant woman, facing a strong man in a confined space. She wouldn’t
gain anything by resisting.
Sherry tried to calm herself down. She took a deep breath and said softly. “Mr. Ford, I
think there’s nothing left to talk about between us. You are about to marry your beloved
wife, and your father–in–law will support your career. Both love and a career will flourish
for you. Isn’t that good?”
Malcolm’s smile faded a little when he heard her words, especially when she mentioned
that “love and career will both flourish.” It had become a sarcastic remark
“Sherry, you know how I feel, so why do you say these things to provoke me?”
“Is what I said not true?” Sherry asked.
“Yes. Malcolm nodded, taking steps closer. “In the eyes of others, it may seem that
way. But I came here today to explain it to you. David is a rare master of landscape
design in the country. He has the experience and ability. The Ford family made their
fortune in real estate. With his help, I can expand and strengthen the family business.
On the other hand, if he goes to another company, the Ford family will suffer an
unprecedented blow. I have no choice. If I don’t marry Sophia, David will not help me. I
have no other option.”
He remained relatively composed, not as hysterical as before.
Sherry felt a little relieved.
However, since he was still approaching step by step, Sherry began to move slowly
toward the kitchen, holding a small knife in her hand, hidden behind her back, as a last
resort for self–defense.
“Mr. Ford, everyone has their own destiny. It cannot be forced. Destiny has brought you together with Sophia, and being with her will bring you a better future. Isn’t that good?”
“But I have reservations about Sophia! The mere thought of sharing a bed with her for the next few decades fills me with despair! Sherry, my grandfather chose you for me. His judgment was spot–on. He knew I would fall in love with you, and you would help

me safeguard the Ford family’s secret. My grandfather didn’t misjudge you.”
Sherry continued to retreat. “Is this the reason Mr. Ford came to visit me today?”
“Not completely,” Malcolm replied, gently closing his eyes. “Sherry, would you join me
for a stroll?”
Sherry politely refused. “I’m not feeling quite well today.”
‘In that case, allow me to give you a ride. We can converse along the way, and I can
share with you the enigmatic tale of the man.
