Chapter 177
The words were deliberately spoken for Sherry to hear.
David was planning to take Sophia out, not her. Sophia had studied abroad, while she
had only graduated from high school. Despite David treating her differently, he still
chose to be cautious and attend this important occasion.
David left first to prepare the car. Nora and Sophia followed behind, whispering to each
other.
“Mom, what do we know about the person Dad is taking us to meet today?”
“I’m not entirely sure. David mentioned that he is a mysterious tycoon behind the
Castillo family, someone who usually keeps a low profile and is rarely seen. The reason
the Castillo family was able to defeat Malcolm and acquire the land for the shopping
mall was because of his involvement.”
Sophia couldn’t help but sigh. “Doesn’t that mean Malcolm will lose his money and
power?
“That’s correct.” Nora glanced at her daughter, knowing they were thinking the same.
thing. She held Sophia’s hand and gently patted it, whispering, “I asked a few more
questions last night. I heard that this person is quite young and has been living abroad
since the age of five, so he doesn’t know much about what happened locally.”
Upon hearing this, Sophia pondered for a while. “Mom, I have an idea.”
“It’s not just you; I have one too,” Nora said. “Malcolm’s path seems to be blocked now,
and we can’t rely on him alone. Let’s see how the situation is today. If this mysterious
boss is genuine, we can take the opportunity to make some efforts.”
Just hearing this made Sophia feel delighted.
So what if Malcolm didn’t want her anymore? She now had a better goal in mind and
wasn’t so fixated on him.
After all, she had one ultimate goal: to marry a wealthy man and live the life of a rich lady for the rest of her life. Attending gatherings and shopping every day. She didn’t want to exhaust herself by working and striving for a career. Women should enjoy life; work and struggle were things that men should do. She just wanted to reap the
rewards.
And one more thing: if this young boss had been living abroad for a long time, his
thinking should be quite open, right?
He shouldn’t care about her affair with Malcolm as much as the local men did. As long
as she served him well, he would definitely treat her well.
Today’s banquet was a great opportunity, and she was determined to dress up
stunningly, instantly gaining the attention and admiration of others.
“Nora, Sophia, get in the car quickly!” David had already started the car and was waiting
outside the villa.
Nora quickly responded, “Coming!”
She lowered her voice and instructed Sophia, “Some things are better kept in your
heart: Don’t show them on your face. Try to appear more thoughtful. If David realizes what you’re up to, he will definitely get angry!
Sophia, however, didn’t think much of it and pouted, “Why would he get angry? David is
only focused on gaining more fame. If I can be with that mysterious big boss, I will
definitely make him proud. Then he won’t bother with Sherry anymore.”
Nora thought about it and realized that what Sophia said made sense.
Considering David’s personality of sacrificing anything for fame, he might just turn a
blind
eye as long as they don’t go too far and embarrass him. Once they succeeded,
their status as mother and daughter would also rise.
Sherry had recently suppressed both of them. It was time to find a way to fight back.
The two of them got in the car, and the black sedan slowly drove toward “Oriental
Auran.
Sherry stood by the window in her room, watching the car gradually disappear from her
sight.
At noon, Joseph whined and complained about being hungry. Sherry cooked some
sato and sat by the bed, spoon–feeding him.
The little troublemaker had become obedient now, not daring to say anything even
when he drank tasteless white oats. He obediently sipped it in small mouthfuls.
Although she didn’t particularly like this uncultured child, there was no enmity between.
them for now. Sherry dutifully fed him the oats and poured him a glass of juice. She
watched as he sipped it in small sips before getting up to wash the dishes in the
kitchen.
“Hey, wait a minute.” Joseph suddenly called out to her.
Sherry stopped in her tracks. She knew that this little brat wouldn’t let her off so easily.
“What’s wrong?”
Joseph met her gaze, and his expression was somewhat strange. “Are you going to
wash the dishes?”
Sherry nodded. “Yes, if you want something, just tell me; I’ll help you get it.”
don’t want anything, Joseph said, seeming anxious. “Um, how about you don’t wash
them? Those plates and utensils are not worth much; just throw them away.”
“I dare not throw them away.” Sherry knew that if she dared to throw away these dishes
and utensils, Nora would definitely label her as extravagant and wasteful. She wouldn’t
give Nora that opportunity. And she could use this opportunity to show David that she
was reliable.
She was a bit puzzled and asked, “You don’t want me to wash the dishes? Are you
being nice to me?
“Who’s being nice to you? I just think you’re clumsy and afraid you’ll break the plates.”
Joseph’s face turned red, but he refused to admit it.
Sherry didn’t want to argue with a child, so she nodded and said, “Don’t worry, I’ll be
gentle and won’t break anything.”
“Hey, Sherry!” Joseph became anxious, licked his lips, and sat up straight, urgently
saying, “I told you not to wash the dishes; why don’t you listen? How many times dol
have to say it?”
This child, why is he getting worked up again?
Sherry took a deep breath and said, “Why exactly? Give me a reason.”
“No reason; I just don’t want you to wash them,” Joseph said, turning his head away.
“Fine, I won’t wash them, then you wash them; how about this?”
Joseph let out a sigh and finally confessed, “Never mind; I’ll tell you the truth. This
morning, I caught Sophia pouring a clear liquid into the dishwashing liquid bottle. If
use that dishwashing liquid, it will harm you, just like it did to my face.”
Sherry was taken aback.
you
‘Do you understand now?” Joseph’s tone was not that nice. “That substance causes
pain and leaves scars when it comes into contact with the skin. I don’t want you to
wash the dishes for your own well–being.”
Why are you looking out for me?” Sherry Inquired.
Joseph lifted his chin with an air of arrogance. “I’m not concerned about your
well–being in the slightest. My only worry is that you might hurt your hands, and then
you won’t be able to cook for me when no one else is home.”
