Chapter 27
“What is the update on the information I sent you, Marx,” Anastasia asked the man over the phone as she looked out the window to ensure Alpha Kaiden was nowhere in sight.
After Alpha Kaiden left, she took a cold shower to snap herself out of whatever emotions she was feeling. This wasn’t the first time she went through something bad. She didn’t have time for feeling these petty emotions that only reminded her how weak she was.
She needed to form the army of people she had been thinking about ever since. If she wasn’t so strong physically, she could still win a fight mentally, right? With that thought in mind, Anastasia started calling everyone one by one to ask about the progress of how things were going. “We are trying, Anastasia. Why don’t you contact your friend Grayson? He has a much better grip on these matters than us. His resources are impeccable,” The man named Marx said, and Anastasia sighed.
“If I have to call him and get to do the work, what use are you guys? Keep trying. I will leave this place as soon as I get the information. The only reason I am staying here is because the information is not confirmed,” Anastasia said before she ended the call and walked to the couch before laying on it with her eyes closed.
She might as well just nap to forget about today’s events. She sighed, letting sleep take over her.
“Aaaaaa!”
“Beta Logan!”
“Get away from him!”
“Take the children back to the houses!”
“Quickly, bring the ropes to tie him!”
“What are you doing? We are losing him!”
Anastasia wrinkled her brows when she heard weird noises.
‘It’s not real. I am probably having one of those hallucinations, Anastasia told herself before taking the cushion and placing it over her head to
block the voice, groaning when it didn’t help much.
“What the hell is wrong with you? He has lost his control. Get the hell away from him! Are you stupid?”
“If you want to live, you better get out of here!”
“There is not one who can control him. Bring the forces from the pack borders. We will have to take him to the dungeons and keep him there. until his anger subsides,”
Anastasia heard the voice again, more distinct this time, and she sat in her place with her brows furrowed.
This wasn’t her hallucination. Something was indeed happening in the pack.
She walked out of the house to see what was going on, her pupils dilating in shock.
To say she was surprised would be an understatement. She looked at the scene in front of her with wide eyes.
A large crowd was formed in the center of the pack, and in the center of that crowd was a rare Midnight Black wolf with dark Blue paws, growling and snarling at everyone.
There was no doubt who this wolf was.
“What is happening?” Anastasia cautiously walked to Logan, who was trying to handle things along with other men she had seen when they had come to arrest her when she helped those human teens. Some were present in the caves when Alpha Kaiden came to protect her.
“Can’t you see? Alpha has lost control,” Derek seethed through his teeth. “I can see that. What I want to know is why this happened. As far as I remember, he is quite a patient man with his pack and cares a lot for them. Did something trigger him? If you know the reason behind it, maybe you can calm him,” Anastasia said.
“As if we don’t know that. Don’t act like you want to help us, rogue. We all know how much you must be enjoying this,” That girl from the pack house, Sasha, said, and Anastasia shrugged.
As much as she pitied Alpha Kaiden at the moment and wanted to help him return the favor of how he saved her today, she wasn’t a stupid girl ready to become some kind of pawn in front of the monster. After she had a reality check with that rogue, there was no way she would be able to take on Alpha Kaiden when he was angry and probably not thinking straight.
“Who wants to help? I am merely intrigued because this situation is as risky for me as everyone else. After all, I am rogue, and though he won’t
react to me right now because my scent is very faint, it doesn’t mean he wouldn’t –”
Logan stiffened in his position when he heard Anastasia’s words. Of course, why didn’t he think of that? How could he forget something as important as that?
The alpha lost his cool and reacted this way because Tiffany tried to get
close to him.
After the meeting, they went to his office to discuss the matter. They had no idea Tiffany was listening to their conversation and heard how Alpha Kaiden kissed the girl, and nothing happened.
He has been cursed to never be able to get close to the opposite gender intimately, but even after that, Anastasia had been the only girl who not only hugged him but kissed him, and no reaction appeared.
She is right. She won’t get a reaction out of him because her smell ist undetectable.
“You are right,” Logan said.
“Hmm?” Anastasia looked at him, confused, unsure if he was talking to her.
“You are equally at risk, just like everyone here. So why don’t you get yourself out of this risk?” Logan asked.
Though it was hard to believe what he was saying, Anastasia narrowed her brows at him.
“You mean to say I can run far away from here?” Anastasia asked to confirm.
Logan smirked at her, his expression not settling well with Anastasia, who looked at him with wariness.
She didn’t know what it was, but her intuition was telling her to run away. And that’s what she planned to do. She shouldn’t be staying close to an angry alpha. However, before she could take another step, Logan held her hands in a steel–like grip.
“I didn’t say that, now did I?” Logan smirked before he pushed Anastasia towards the wolf as hard as he could, making her stumble right in front of the raging alpha.
You jerk!” Anastasia shouted at Logan, who looked at his Alpha’s reaction.
Anastasia turned around with her body trembling in fear, looking at the wolf who was hovering over her.
“Grrrrrer!!!” Alpha Kaiden released a ground–shaking growl, and Logan widened his eyes, realizing that he calculated everything wrong.
“Shit! This is bad!” Logan rushed ahead to help the girl, but it was too late.
The wolf leaned forward,
Anastasia didn’t close her eyes like everyone had expected her to or what any sane person would’ve done in such a situation.
She looked straight into the wolf’s eyes and extended her hand.
“Alpha Kaiden, it’s me,” She didn’t know what she was doing. All she knew was that this felt right. A voice inside her head was saying he would calm down by this.
Logan, who was rushing to her, immediately paused in his steps and looked at the scene in awe.
His alpha, who was growling and snarling just a few minutes ago, had his head tilted as he looked at the rogue intrigued.
“There. There,” Anastasia said before looking at Logan.
“Is this how it’s done?” She mouthed to him, and Logan shrugged.
“I have no idea,” He whispered back, and she sighed. Of course, he didn’t. Anastasia’s body suddenly froze when the wolf stepped closer and leaned into her neck even more, making her stumble back on her butt.
“Everything is okay. You are going to be fine. Nothing is wrong. I know you got irritated, but it’s okay now. No one’s going to annoy you. No woman’s scent, nothing,” Anastasia sat on her knees as she tried to show him her trust by tilting her head to the wolf, and the wolf gazed into her eyes before snarling at her.
It was as if he was testing her, and when she didn’t move or blink, he touched his snout with her forehead.
Snap.
Within a second, the wolf changed back into its human form, and Anastasia looked into Alpha Kaiden’s eyes.
She knew that Alpha Kaiden hadn’t recovered completely, and thus, she stepped ahead, placing her hand on his chest.
All the girls who were watching this scene gritted their teeth in jealousy. Kaiden’s gaze shifted to her hand on his chest for a second before it shifted back into her amber eyes.
He blinked, none of them saying anything for a few seconds before he narrowed his brows.
And when everyone thought that alpha Kaiden would snap at the rogue. for touching his chest so daringly, he did something that shocked
everyone.
Alpha Kaiden grabbed a fistful of Anastasia’s hair before he pulled her forward and kissed her, making everyone gasp, and Anastasia’s eyes widened in utter shock.
“Alpha, are you okay?” Logan asked as soon as Kaiden opened his eyes after being unconscious for an hour as the doctors had sedated him to ensure he didn’t cause more havoc.
Kaiden opened his eyes, feeling a familiar burning sensation all over his body, only this time, they were not as uncomfortable as they used to be. “I am fine. Is everything in the pack okay? No one got hurt, right?” Kaiden’s voice was cold, deep, and void of emotions as he asked Logan the questions.
Since he was feeling hot all over, Logan had helped the doctor take off his shirt, and he was sitting shirtless, with his elbow on his knees, holding his face in frustration.
Kaiden was frustrated, but there was someone even more annoyed than him. And it was Anastasia Thompson, sitting on the couch in the corner, observing him carefully.
Seeing his shirtless side profile as Kaiden sat, unknowingly flexing his biceps, she didn’t know if she should be angrier that he tried something as atrocious as that or if she should be angry that for a tiny minuscule seconds, she wanted that kiss to last? That she wanted to kiss him back with even stronger desire?
“About Tiffany, we have warned her, sir,” Logan said, and Kaiden shook his head.
“This time a warning won’t be enough. She knows what kind of problem Isuffer from, yet she dared to snuck on her alpha and kiss him? The audacity is unforgivable, and this time, I won’t let it go because she is a
she–wolf with good training skills. Take her to the interrogation room and lock her until I deal with her myself,” Kaiden massaged his forehead, feeling a slight headache creeping in.
“And, alpha, there is someone who wants to talk to you –” Logan let his. words trail off, and Kaiden followed his line of sight, his gaze meeting
Anastasia’s angry ones.
“Well,” Kaiden immediately smirked, his change of expression and emotions surprising Logan.
“Leave us alone, Logan. Make sure no one enters the house until I say so. We don’t want this kitten’s claws scratching anyone, now do we? Also, a good presence of mind. Maybe her touch indeed calms me,” Kaiden smirked, and Anastasia suppressed the urge to roll her eyes.
Calm her ass, she wanted to set him on fire at that moment as she took advantage of her soft lips in front of everyone. However, since she was a true feminist, she let it pass all because she was the one who started it and believed in equality. So it was her fault in the beginning, but now it ended with him.
“Seeing how you have the heart to joke, I am sure you are okay. I am tired after the long day,” Anastasia stood from her place, referring to what happened earlier, knowing all too well that Kaiden’s smirks meant
nothing good, and he would–only tease her.
However, before she could move another step, in a split second, Kaiden appeared in front of her and pinned her to the wall.
“Where do you think you are going? I am not done with you yet, Kaiden said, and Logan looked down before leaving the room and closing the door behind him.
“But I am done with you,” Anastasia said, looking to the other side, and Kaiden smirked.
“Good morning, wake up to reality, Sia. It doesn’t matter. Last time I checked, I was still the alpha here,” Kaiden said, forcing her to look into
his eyes.
“And last time I checked, I am still a rogue, which means I am not obliged to submit to you. And regarding your little council problem, I got it solved today. So you can tell them I am here, or they can send a search party for me. I don’t care. I am leaving,” Anastasia said.
For some reason, he didn’t like her choice of words. Her words raised an anger and annoyance in Kaiden that he had never felt
Atlas felt uneasy, and Kaiden felt his wolf’s frustration in his bones.
“You are leaving this pack? I mean, the company?” Kaiden asked, looking down at her lips as his hand slipped down to her throat, tilting her head upwards.
“I don’t have a reason to stay here. I forbid myself to stay in a pack ruled by a monster. Who knows what you’ll do to me later?” Anastasia said, stealing her gaze again..
Kaiden didn’t know what was going on inside her head, but one thing was for sure, she was indeed hiding something. It must be something related to that phone call in the cafeteria, he nodded at himself.
“Who are you to call me a monster? Hmm? Have you looked at yourself?” Kaiden pressed his abdomen into her, pressing her body on the hard wall, making her gasp.
“Just a pathetic rogue, running from people,” He looked at her with eyes filled with annoyance, grabbing her jaws as he slammed her back on the wall.
Anastasia froze in her place when he said that sentence. She wasn’t running away from people. She was just protecting herself until she became strong enough to take her revenge. And no one, especially this alpha, had the right to say anything against it.
“Are you sure I am the pathetic one here? At least I am not cursed like you. I got a mate and probably a second chance too. You? Do you have someone by your side?” Anastasia scoffed, laughing coldly through her pain.
She was hurt, and Kaiden could feel it, but that doesn’t mean what she said didn’t hurt him either.
Both poked each other where it hurt them the most.
Kaiden’s eyes darkened as he looked into her eyes, and Anastasia didn’t waver her gaze this time.
“You dare to mock me? Very well. You are right. I don’t have a mate. But why should I desire one when I can have anyone under me?” Kaiden asked, and Anastasia laughed at his pathetic fate.
She laughed in his face. It was as if he said the funniest thing she had ever heard.
“Anyone under you? Are you sure about that alpha? Last time I checked, your wolf went haywire because a girl placed her hand on your chest and
kissed you. Your body contradicts your words, mocking yourself,” Anastasia said, making him snarl in warning.
Anastasia didn’t stop.
“Honestly, you can wait for your curse to be uplifted while I will go and find my second mate once I accomplish my goals. The mate who will love me unconditionally, and I’ll be able to touch,” Anastasia said before. pushing him as hard as she could.
As much as she was thankful for the alpha for helping her, it didn’t mean she was going to stay around and take his insults. Besides, now that he mentioned a marriage, it was more important than ever to run away from here.
She walked towards the door and opened the door to walk out, but before she could do that, the door slammed, and Kaiden pushed her against the door, forcing her to look straight into his eyes.
“You say you have a second chance mate out there? Is that what you are proud of, Anastasia? Let me ruin that chance for you. From today onwards, you will be pathetically and solely mine.
You shouldn’t have kissed me that night and showed me that you are the only woman I can touch. And since you are the only one, you should be mine,” He placed his hand on her throat, one finger at a time, and pressed his lips on her passionately, pulling her all the way to the bed, making Anastasia widen her eyes in shock.
