“You need to eat something for your body to grow stronger, Katerina.” I said, smiling at my wife as I tried getting her to take a bite out of her vegetables.
It has been three weeks since everything have happened, and the two of us were still at the hospital for her to recover. Her body, despite all the medication, and all the treatments was still far too weak for her to be allowed back to the house, and frankly, even I believed that her going back. right now wasn’t going to be the best thing for her; especially after everything that happened.
“You know that I am not hungry, Nikolay. Plus, they have an IV inserted in my hand for a reason.” She tried reasoning. I chuckled and shook my head, wanting her to eat. Thankfully, I was starting to get more and more words out of her, and even a smile or two every once and a while. For now, she was yet to know about Anastasia being pregnant. I didn’t have it in me to break her like that after everything that has happened to her. If anything, I didn’t even know how she would react to knowing about it, nor did I know how even I was going to handle it.
I put the broccoli piece near her mouth and she sighed before opening it to take a bite. She rolled her eyes as she chewed it while I cut a piece of chicken breast for her. All her food was prepared at home and brought to her here, and though the hospital didn’t approve of her eating it as much, I would rather have her eating something that had taste with the same quality of the hospital food. If it were about her not eating salt, then non iodized salts could always do.

“Just a little more. I know that you are going to tell me that you’re not hungry and that this is too much food for you, but just a little more to ensure that you got enough nutrition and that we have gone over last week’s budget.” I said, trying to encourage her. She sighed and nodded,

opening her mouth for me to put the chicken in her mouth. I knew that it hurt her to chew due to the scabs and the healing bruises that were on her face. Thankfully, she was healing, and according to the doctors, she was healing at a steady pace, but that didn’t mean that the man hasn’t done his damage on her. She never once mentioned his name, not to ask about him. or to know what happened to him, and I knew not to pressure her into something too early before she managed to heal.
“See, it wasn’t too bad.” I said, smiling at her as I put the fork down. I knew that more than she could handle could result to her vomiting, and that wasn’t something that I wanted to reach. If anything, I was trying to make her grow stronger, not kill her immune system or hurt her.
“Yes, considering that I have eaten more than I normally eat in the house…”
“Katerina, you need to heal. Your body needs nutrition for you to actually do so. I know that right now, it might not make that much sense to you, but you need to do it for your sake.” I said, and she nodded, laying back on the pillow as to sit in a more comfortable position for her back. She had to undergo major therapy to simply be able to move her limbs more
properly, and knowing that she not only had broken ribs, but also her right foot was badly injured, she just didn’t know about how bad the injury was considering the fact that she was not allowed to walk and didn’t get off painkillers.
Her spine was also harmed, and it killed me to mention the fact that I couldn’t kill her father when I had the chance. It would have served met years in prison, I knew that. But the amount of violence that he showed the woman was one that I couldn’t even imagine a stranger doing to a woman that he didn’t know let alone his daughter. Another thing that was mentioned to me was that during the x–rays, the doctors told me that she had been abused before, and this wasn’t the firs time that the man has hurt. her. She had two bones which revealed to have been broken on her wrist. and treated at home, the alignment of the bone structures showed it, and her right knee seemed to have been not only badly injured but also dislocated before it was self treated. had a limp nor did she tell anyone about all of this. If anything, she stood strong despite all the pain that she has been through.
“You need to listen to your husband, Katerina.” Mom said, smiling at Katerina who looked down at her lap. Mom, who has heard about what happened to her, felt more sorry about hurting her when she heard how abused she was. She has been treating her like the daughter that she didn’t have since then, and whether it was taking her to the bathroom or even giving her a shower, or more specifically, wiping out her wounds, mom did it for her without complaining.
“She is, and she had eaten a lot more than she had a few days ago. She just needs to rest a bit now.” I said, and mom smiled. She was the one who told. me to hold back on telling her about Anastasia for a while, and though I didn’t know where Anastasia was, mom was making sure to take care of her until the baby was born. Then we would be deciding on how things.

“I have been resting nonstop for weeks, Nikolay, you do realize that, right? I can’t spend my whole life in bed, nor can I sleep all day and night without doing anything to at least keep me active without the need of physiotherapists.” She said, looking down at her hands which were still both bandaged.
“I know that you are getting tired of all this, malyshka, but you have been patient throughout all that time, a little more won’t harm you. Plus, it is giving you the right time to heal and the right time for your body to really recover.” I said, trying to persuade her.
“What if you take her to the hospital’s park? You know, that way she would be able to see the world outside these walls, and even the nurses would be able to clean the room properly.” Mom suggested. I looked at Katerinal whose eyes lit up before she nodded, letting me know that it was something that she wanted. I nodded, and taking her hand in mine, I gently ran my fingers over it before kissing her bandaged knuckle.
“Alright, but I have a condition.” I said, looking her dead in the eye.

“And that is?” She asked, raising an eyebrow. I smirked, and she shook her head at me, waiting for what I had to say. Clearly not happy with what I just told her. I knew that it was something that she didn’t really want me putting on her. If, judging by her sleep talking, her bruises, broken bones, and cuts that she had all over her body, I would know that she was put under tough conditions throughout most of, if not her whole life.
“If you are tired, even if I would be the one pushing you with a wheelchair, I want you to tell me. Okay? I will take you inside on the spot, but the last thing the two of us need is for you to get sick when you are barely recovering.” I said, looking her dead in the eye. “So, do we have a deal?”
