“Hi,” Nikolay said, smiling at me as he lay by my side.
I rubbed the sleep from my eyes to find him laying beside me, wearing his jeans and shirt, and holding me in his arms. His eyes were wide awake. despite the pain that they held in them, making me frown in confusion as I rose a bit to look at him.
“Hi.” I said, running my finger over his cheek. He leaned in to my touch and took my hand in his, gently kissing the cast. “Are you okay?”
“What do you mean?” He asked, frowning in confusion.
“Nothing, don’t worry. You just look to be somewhat in pain, and I wanted. to make sure whether or not something was bothering you.” I said, trying to quickly drop the subject. Noticing my sudden panic, Nikolay smiled and took my hand in his, gently kissing it.
“I am just a little tired, that’s all. It could be the lack of sleep, or work stress, but I don’t want you worrying about it, yeah?” He asked, his voice softening to the point that I knew that I would have listened to anything that he said if needed. He smiled at my nod, and leaned in to kiss my temple.
“They told me that they would be removing the casts today. I would need a little physical therapy, but I should be fine soon.” I said, and Nikolay smiled, his eyes lighting up as he heard that. “The doctors came for a last check before I slept after you left. I was about to doze off, but they woke me up by their entrance.”
Nikolay nodded and ran his finger through my hair, making my heart swell. The fact that he was being as gentle as he was with me was something that I was grateful for. It was something that I would have never expected feeling or experiencing, especially judging by the rough start that we had. I just hoped and feared that it wasn’t ONLY because of what happened. I truly did hope that he meant what he was saying or doing.

Otherwise, I really didn’t know what I would do, especially since I knew that I was growing attached to the man.
“Good, because I was honestly starting to consider asking them when they would clear you to come back home.” He said, making my eyes widen in surprise. “The two of us wouldn’t be living at the Estate though.”
“What?” I asked, frowning in confusion. I knew that it was something that I wanted. Hell, it was something that I honestly enjoyed. Our privacy, and the fact that the two of us could at least get to know one another, whether good or bad, was something that I liked. “Your mum…..”
“The two of us need our time alone.” He said, stopping me. “I am not saying that we would permanently leave, but at least, until the two of us have managed to get to really know one another. Build our memories, and our home, I think that we should start fresh. Also, I don’t want you remembering the struggle and the pain that you went through in the house. I know that you being here at the hospital doesn’t mean that you forgot about it, and that is exactly why I want to isolate you from there for a bit. The two of us building new memories can be good for both of us, and that is something that I want to do for us.”
“And what about your mum? Won’t she get angry about this? Please forgive me for asking, but the two of us got into a major argument because of exactly the same reason.” I said, frowning when the heart monitor’s beating sped up, letting him know that I was not very happy about this and that my heart was racing. It wasn’t that, but the two of us. were barely just building up what I can now call a mother in law, and daughter in law healthy relationship. The last thing I needed was to ruin it for myself.
“She already knows, and understands my reason.” He said, making me. frown. The woman knew and said nothing about it? Now that was something that I couldn’t understand. Something must have happened for that change to occur. And whatever it was, I was both scared, and yet curious about it. But I knew better than to ask about whatever private conversation could have gone between the mother and her son. The two of them could have discussed things between themselves, and they might

not even want me knowing about it. Therefore, who the fuck was I to interfere in such a thing?

“As long as she’s okay with it, and would not come to me later, being upset or angry, then I am more than happy to do so. Us building our home would be something that is worth working for. You know, especially considering the fact that we couldn’t really do that with everything that happened between us.” I said, choosing to be honest despite my hesitation. The one thing that I did want in my marriage was a home that the two of us enjoyed living in and looked forward to coming back to. Therefore, if I was going to get that, then why was going to complain about it, right?
“Don’t worry, baby girl. I will be sure that everything that we have dealt with remains in the past. I know that we have reached to points where we both wanted a divorce despite our marriage being on its very beginning, but at least now we both know that we are here to fight for one another, by one another’s side.” He said, making my heart swell. I was thankful for the fact that the monitor didn’t increase in speed. But then again, my heartbeat was calm. If anything, I was feeling more secure than I ever had.
The only issue was the heavy feeling that settled in my chest.
Something happened, and whatever it was, Nikolay was not telling me
about it.
But whatever it is. I just hoped that it wasn’t bad or wasn’t going to affect him in the future…
