It was her wedding ring!
Zoe looked downstairs from the window and found that Mason’s car was, indeed, parked right down there.

After à brief pause, he called her. Zoe picked up the call and said, Take the puppy away, Mason.”
He said gently, “Its name is Sherry and it’s only three months old! Haven’t you always wanted to have a puppy? It’s cute.”
Zoe was about to say something, but Mason already hung up the phone. Leaning over, he snuffed out his cigar, raised his eyes, and flashed her a smile. Then, he got into the car and drove off.
She was stunned and watched as he drove away into the distance. The puppy was staring right at her when she lowered her head, looking all innocent.
Needless to say, she wasn’t going to keep it.
Changing into another outfit and shoes, she carried the puppy and prepared to call a cab. She was going to send it back to Mason.
Dusk was approaching as she arrived at his manor. The servant was pleasantly surprised to see her return, “Are you coming back, Ms. Zoe? Mr. Mason had just come home not long ago! That’s a cute

Her eyes reddened as she turned her head away, refusing to speak to him. She was very reluctant.
Lowering his head, Mason licked the tears from her face. He carried the white puppy and gave it to her while she was still shocked. Then, he said tenderly, “Will you be its mom?”
Zoe ran away frantically.
He was a little stunned when she pushed him away, but he didn’t stop her. He didn’t put down the puppy until he heard a series of footsteps scurrying downstairs. Then, he took the wedding ring and examined it.
The servant wore a puzzled expression on her face, “Ms. Zoe is leaving, Mr. Mason!”
There was nothing but a blank expression on Mason’s face. He spoke softly, “Have the chauffeur send her back home! The streets aren’t safe.”
The servant didn’t want to risk asking more questions.
On the private road outside of the manor, Zoe was running as fast as her legs could carry her. What Mason said about becoming the puppy’s mom haunted her.
Her fantasies of a wonderful life with him were like forgotten memories. They flooded her mind once more…
