Zoe went back to her rented apartment. Her cooking was halfway done. It was still there, but she no longer cared about it. Sitting in the darkness, she didn’t turn on the heater. Instead, she just hugged her legs and let her mind wander off.
She recalled that she used to fantasize about marrying Mason when she was young. They’d have two kids and a puppy.
“Will you be its mom?”
His tone was so tender that it was ironically sharp. It stabbed right at her heart and caused so much pain. Six years. That was how long she had loved him. It wasn’t like she could just move on from him…

Noon was approaching as she arrived at her parents’ place.
Mia prepared a lot of dishes. In order to break the ice, she kept shoving food onto both Gordon’s and Zoe’s plates.
“Eat up! They’re good for you.”
Putting down his cutlery, Gordon said, “Mia told me that you moved
out of the Lockwood Manor. Is it true?”
Zoe lowered her head and said, “Yeah.”
He paused for a while before saying softly, “None of us blame you for making this decision, not even Noah, I promise.”
-Tears started welling up in her eyes. “I know.”
Mia saw it and changed the topic. Speaking to Gordon, she said, ” Zoe’s going to make her debut along with Aiden in about another month. Let her focus on practicing her violin for the time being. We can talk about her marriage later.”
Gordon resorted to silence.
No one brought up Kirk Manor. All of them were still heartbroken
about it.
Evening rolled by and Mia was preparing dinner in the kitchen. Out of nowhere, she called Zoe over.
Zoe didn’t think much of it. She asked, “What’s the matter, Mia?”
Mia pointed outside and said, “He’s here. You should go down there and talk to him! Your dad’s going to get mad again if he sees him standing there! He was still fuming over what happened last time!”
Zoe was stunned and looked downstairs from the window. Mason’s

Then, he opened the car door and stepped outside. It was kind of cold out there. Wearing a deep gray windbreaker, his shirt was neat and white, which brought out his defined features.
Holding the puppy in one hand, he closed the car door with another. At the next moment, he raised his eyes and locked gazes with her.
Putting on a coat, she went downstairs. She instinctively covered her cheeks with the coat the moment she stepped outdoors, her camel coat complimented her fair, graceful skin.
“What are you doing here?” She didn’t go near him and kept her guard
The puppy barked twice before he could say anything. Brushing its fur with his lean fingers, he soothed it, “Do you want mommy to carry you?” Then, he glanced at Zoe.
The evening light shone on Zoe’s flushed face. “I’m not her mommy.
His eyes grew darker, “You say that, but I’m ready to be a daddy!”
Zoe lowered her gaze. Then, she raised her head, looked him in the eyes, and said sternly, “Can we act like normal human beings for two seconds, Mason? If you want to play your little game, then go ahead and unleash your manly charm on the other ladies.
“I, for one, can’t take it! I’m going back upstairs. Get out of here. My dad can’t afford to get worked up!”
