stepped on the gas pedal lightly and talked to her about the things. between Ella and Leslie on their way to the hospital. He decided to be upfront and told her that Ella and Leslie couldn’t be together.
He stopped the car in the hospital’s basement parking lot. Leaning over, he said lightly, “Leslie won’t choose Ella over the multi-billion project, Zoe. I can help you to track her down, but there’s nothing I can do for them.”
Zoe nodded. Holding the handle, she was about to get out of the car when he grabbed her hands.
Looking at her for a long time, he asked her softly, “Did you miss me in the past couple of days?”
Her fingers twitched slightly. “Not at all.”
Smiling faintly, he leaned over and took out a gift from the rear seat before passing it to her, “I brought you this. It’s a fish oil I got from the exhibition. You can’t buy it anywhere else yet. It’ll be great for your dad.”
She took it and thanked her gently.
Touching her cheeks, he said, “Go on up there! I need to head to the company. Say hi to your parents for me.”
Zoe bolted. She ran upstairs as much as she was trying to run away
from him.
He watched as she left. Much time had passed when he put Sherry in the passenger seat and drove the car away.
Zoe was clearly distracted when she was in the ward. Mia took the apple away from her and grumbled, “Watch out. You might cut
yourself.”

Watching her sleeping husband, Mia spoke softly, “I saw Mason when you arrived at the hospital. Did he send you here? What’s going on between you guys?”
She decided to tell the truth. “He was helping me in tracking down. Ella.”
Mia was rather disheartened when she brought up Ella and told her to lend a hand to the poor girl.
She nodded.
Mia decided to speak what was on her mind and said, “A couple of private nurses came by this afternoon. Apparently, Mason arranged for them to look after your dad when he’s discharged from the hospital.
“I didn’t agree to it. I figured you should be the one who called the shots. Perhaps you should reconsider the divorce? I can tell that he has been taking care of you lately. He was very respectful of you too.”
Needless to say, Zoe also felt that Mason was a little different. Take that night for instance. If it was the old him, he wouldn’t have cared when he got her like that. She was powerless to fight back and he, for sure, would’ve cared more about satisfying his desires.

Zoe was still worried about Ella. So, she didn’t spend much time pondering her relationship with Mason.
All this while, she had been searching for Ella. She even flew to Paris

Perhaps Ella was oblivious to her friend searching for her frantically and that Ella would try to play it off cool when she finally tracked her down.

However, these were nothing but wishful thinking.
She finally received news about Ella on the day Leslie was engaged. Mason called her, his voice was husky and he sounded a little wom out, “I found Ella, Zoe! She’s in the hospital!
She said hastily, “What happened to her? Give me the location so I can visit her, Mason.”
However, he wouldn’t budge. He even said stemly, “Stay put at your apartment. I’m coming over to pick you up.
Zoe’s fingers were trembling after she hung up the phone. She recalled the nightmare she had. Blood covered Ella from head to toe, as she said softly, “I might die for real this time, Zoe!”
He arrived in less than ten minutes. It looked like he came here straight from Leslie’s engagement party. He wore a white shirt with a tailored black suit over it, looking dashing.
