Chapter 198
A tear slid down Zoe’s cheek. It tasted salty when Mason kissed it. Then, he stopped in his tracks and propped himself with one hand. while staring at her.
After what seemed like forever, he said softly, “I’ll stop here. How about I help you get changed?”
She didn’t fight back when he helped her slip into a new set of clothes. Her slender frame and fair skin looked fragile, but in a beautiful way when she wore elegant black clothes. His breathing became irregular when his fingers came into contact with her skin.
He was a man with a primal desire for lust. Moreover, he hadn’t done it in a long time.
Fixing her gaze on the crystal chandelier on the ceiling, she was completely unfazed by his actions.
In a daze, she said, “This isn’t going to work, Mason! The moment you, touch me, I’m thrown back to what you did to me in the study that night. I relive the way you forced yourself on me. You made me do something not even the cheapest escorts would do.
“I’ll never forget the choice you made in that car accident!
“I detest you touching and talking to me. I’m not aroused at all when you touch me. What’s the point of keeping me by your side, Mason?”
Mason felt a chill down his spine.
At the next moment, he lowered his head and closed his lips on hers, as if reluctant to acknowledge what she said.
He wanted her to take her words back and love him once more. He wanted her to wrap her arms around his neck and call out to him in pleasure like she once did.
He even reached down below her waist and between her thighs, but he felt nothing. Her body didn’t react to him the way she had before. She was completely numbed to his touch.
Blinking, he realized she wasn’t aroused at all. He wasn’t sure if it was just him or if she was turned off of men in general, but both of these possibilities worried him.
After a moment of silence, he helped her get changed and left to smoke outside. A wisp of grey smoke rose in the air.
He pondered quietly. Zoe was doing this to herself so that she could get away from him. That begged a question. Did she still remember how it felt when she loved him back then? Was it possible that she had just chosen to forget all of that?
A guest came to his manor during dinner time.
The servant, Layla, knocked on the door and said gingerly, “Ms. Lisa is here, Mr. Mason! She’s downstairs and she’d like a word with you. She says it’s urgent.”
He leaned on his couch wordlessly. After a good while, he snuffed out his cigarette and went downstairs. He saw his mother sipping on a cup of coffee in his living room when he was on his way down. She looked elegant and beautiful, the way any noble lady should strive to look like.
She saw him coming down and put down the cup. She didn’t beat
around the bush. “I heard that Zoe’s left arm was hurt so bad that she
can no longer play violin. On top of that, she’s also demanding a divorce.”

Instead of answering her, he ordered Layla, “Make me a Jamaican blue mountain coffee.”
Lisa wasn’t pleased that he brushed her aside. So, she said coldly, “I chose Zoe to be your wife because she is artistically inclined. Now that her left arm is ruined, she’s worthless! The CEO of Lockwood Corporation cannot have a wife who doesn’t possess any talent. You have to follow through with the divorce!”
“Do I have to?” he said mockingly. Lowering his gaze, he sneered. Didn’t you serve her up to me on a silver platter back then? Why do you want me to divorce her now?”
Lisa retorted arrogantly, “Anyone who’s worthless deserves to be replaced!”
His eyes grew darker even under the light of the chandelier. Then, he spoke softly, “Well, well, well. How about I replace you? The way I see it, you’ve long lost your worth to me! All you do is spend the family money. I could do without you!”
at drove her up the wall, “Do you have any idea what you’re saying, ason?”
Layla came in and placed cup of coffee carefully on the table.
Mason, however, didn’t bother drinking it. Gazing at his mother, he said lightly, “I’ll ask the finance department to suspend every bank. card you own if you don’t stop meddling. Perhaps you’ll divert your attention to more pressing matters, instead of poking your nose into my private life.”
Lisa quivered with rage as he strolled upstairs. Then, she heard his voice from the floor above, “Show Ms. Lisa out!”
