Chapter 203
After returning to Brookesville, she bought an apartment that was
over a thousand two hundred square feet for Gordon and Mia with the money she got from selling the manor. It wasn’t as extravagant a place as what Mason provided them, but it was comfortable enough.
Mia felt uneasy. Pulling Zoe aside, she asked, “You spent all of you money to buy this apartment. What happens if you need more funds for Noah’s case or if you’re in an emergency/
Zoe assured her that there was nothing to worry about
Taking a share certificate out of the drawer, Zoe showed it to her and said, “I own two percent of the Lockwood Corporation’s shores. The dividends alone are worth three hundred million dollars! With this, I won’t ever have to worry about money.”
That did nothing to make her feel better, though. She had dealt with Mason on several occasions and she figured she knew a thing or two about him. It had never been easy to take his money, much less the
dividends!
Zoe noticed Mia wasn’t feeling confident about it and said softly, “He felt quilty for what he did to me! He’s not going to play games now!
She made herself sound tough, but how could she not feel
heartbroken about it?
He used to be the person she cared about the most, but things had devolved so much that she was using their marriage as a bargaining chip. She sacrificed her youth and her marriage to secure these dividends. Her dreams had shattered too!
Mia felt a little better when she saw the way Zoe spoke. Then, she brought up another topic, “Aiden made several calls. He said that your

performance was a huge success and your fans hoped very much that you could join him on his concert tour. Do you want to reconsider it, Zoe?”
Zoe shook her head in response. “It was just a spur of the moment thing, Mia. They were merely feeling sympathy for me! I’m well aware of my own situation. Playing the violin is no longer a viable career for
me.”
Mia patted her hands lightly, trying to comfort her.
Forcing a smile, Zoe said, “It’s okay! I’ll come to terms with it eventually!”
Zoe went to Liam’s law firm in the afternoon. He was waiting for her in the same office. Light shone through the window and he was smoking a cigar while sitting at his office desk. The smell of cigars filled the room. The pile of documents on his desk had seen better days.
By the time they wrapped up the discussion about Noah’s case, he snuffed out his cigar and leaned back on his chair.
Fixing his gaze on her, he said lightly, “If you want to file a divorce, I can help you with that. I’ll even consider it pro bono. I don’t think there’s any other lawyer in Brookesville who would dare take your case anyway! Mason’s power and influence in this city is quite mind- boggling, after all.”
Instead of answering him immediately, she lowered her head, stirred her coffee, and said after a brief pause, “It looks like you know about my situation very well, Liam. Can I ask you a question, though? Why do you want to help me? We’re barely even friends.”
Liam took out another cigar and shrugged. “Perhaps I’m doing it for fame. I love taking high-profile divorce cases. Or, perhaps I’m bored
and I want to take on Lockwood Corporation’s entire legal teamt in
any case
He stared into her eyes, only to find her staring back at him with such calmness. There was a sense of apathy that didn’t fit her young age at all. He could remember when she was still a starry-eyed young girl several years ago.
He decided to do away with his tongue in cheek attitude and looked at her for a long time
“Your story is very similar to my mom’s. She, too, was loved by her husband in the same manner. He tapped her in a loveless marriage. and used her to further his own agenda. However, you’re different from my mother You’re tougher.”
Shrugging, he smiled when he was done speaking.
Liam might’ve tried to pass it on casually, but she could guess how il ended for his mother and said softly. “I’m sorry about your mother.”
Holding the doorknob, she turned around and looked at him, “You got something wrong, Liam. Love isn’t a trap. If he truly loved her, then he wouldn’t have subjected her to any sort of pain. He merely used her for his selfish purposes!”
It wasn’t known if she was referring to Mason or Liam’s father.
He opened the window and watched as she left, thinking about the latest news he had just received.
The CEO of Lockwood Corporation had spent a whopping five million dollars to hire psychiatrists to analyze his wife.
