It was New Year’s Eve. Mia made pizza as well as other dishes. She
asked Zoe to invite Ella over for dinner.
“She doesn’t have any family. How else is she supposed to spend her New Year’s Eve?”
Zoe took a slice of pizza and ate it quietly. “I already gave her a call earlier!”
She gave Zoe a sidelong glance, and smacked her hand. “Eat it when everyone else is here! You’re not a rat!”
That brought a smile to Zoe’s face.
Mia was relieved that Zoe was able to move past her tragic marriage. She was about to say something when there was a knock on the door.
Zoe opened the door and found Ella standing there.
There were a few paper bags in her hands. Aside from Gordon and Mia’s supplements, she also bought a branded scarf for her friend. The design was exactly Zoe’s cup of tea.
However, that didn’t stop Zoe from saying, “You shouldn’t have!”
Ella put it on for her and said, “It looks so good on you! It matches your fair skin!” She also prepared a gift for her. It was a limited edition bag and Ella loved it so much she couldn’t stop grinning.
“Look who’s talking! This bag must have cost you at least twenty thousand dollars! After all, this is the Himalaya Niloticus Crocodile!”
Zoe took a dig at her. “Do you hate it? I can always return it.”
Ella wasn’t going to let her do it. “Hey, this is mine now!”

Zoe gave her a slice of pizza and said, “You’re an honorary family member here! Come here more often and I think my dad will start giving you an allowance.”
There were some tears in her eyes, but she fought it back, lowered her head, and said, “Okay!”
Gordon was a man of few words, but he said to her, “You’re even slimmer than Zoe! Feel free to drop by if you have the time. We can always host another person at the dining table.
Then, she looked at Zoe and smiled. Zoe returned the favor.

Ella agreed with it wholeheartedly, “The snacks you used to make were freaking delicious. I’m sure you’ll make it!”
Then, both of them chatted away at this topic before Mia expressed
her concerns.
Zoe responded, “Rosemary is experienced in the food and beverage industry. I’m going to meet up with her and see if there’s anything I can learn from her!”
Mia gave her a bowl of mushroom soup and said excitedly, Rosemary is such a nice lady! It’s a good thing that she’s willing to give you her support! Do a good job on your dessert spot and you might be able to hire Ella at some point. It’s better to have someone you trust work with you.”
She smiled faintly, “Why, of course!”
All of a sudden, they heard a puppy’s yapping!
“Woof! Woof!”
Mia didn’t notice Zoe’s reaction. Instead, she opened the door puzzlingly, “Where’s all this yapping coming from?”
The moment she opened the door, she saw a ball of white fur leaping around cheerfully.
It was Sherry!
She was stunned briefly before she came to a realization, “Did he send the puppy here?”
It was clear who she meant.
Zoe walked over in silence and carried the puppy. Sherry still recognized her and buried its head in her chest. Its soft fur made her
