Chapter 213
Zoe looked at the door and realized that Sherry’s toys and food were
in a box
Mason didn’t want to keep the puppy anymore.
Moving the stuff inside, she said softly, “He’s got a big project going on. I know he’s reveling in his great success. So, he’s not going to bother me! I’ll keep Sherry, from here on out!”
Sherry stared at her innocently with its black eyes and buried its head into her arms again. It was clearly attached to her.
Ella grumbled, “It loves you!”
At that moment, Zoe’s phone rang. It must’ve been Mason. She went to the balcony to take his call. The sound of a whistling wind came from the other end of the phone. She could hear his light breathing as

They both remained quiet for a while before he finally said softly,” Happy New Year, Zoe!”
She hadn’t exactly moved on from the traumatizing pain, but she chose to remain graceful
“Happy New Year to you too!” She paused briefly before continuing,” Пl keep Sherry, but you’re not allowed to visit her. I won’t be sending you any pictures, either. You don’t want to keep her. That’s why you sent it to me. My dog, my rules.”
He responded with a husky voice, 11 didn’t say I don’t want Sherry.” Then, his voice grew deeper, “I think it’ll be better for Sherry to stay with its mommy. That’s all.”
“That’s enough, Mason!” She stared at the fireworks in the distance

and said lightly, “Don’t ever call me and try to flirt with me again. We’re done!”
Without any hesitation, she hung up on him. It still hurt. The trauma their marriage left her would start aching whenever it was raining, much like her left arm. How could she just move on from it?
There was a black Bentley parked downstairs. Mason was wearing a black coat and leaned on his car, holding a cigarette between his fingers. He raised his head and smoked. A thin wisp of smoke rose
and scattered to the wind.
It was New Year’s Eve and families gathered around. Before he knew it, he was already here. All he wanted to do was see her and listen to her voice again.
By the time she hung up on the phone, it was exactly midnight. The sound of fireworks exploding in the air was endless and the sky was lit over and over again by exotic colors.

Glancing at the balcony, he realized she long gone. He was
trapped in a gloomy silence for quite some time before he murmured, “Happy New Year, honey!”
Zoe returned to the living room and saw that Ella was holding the puppy, pretending she hadn’t heard the phone conversation. Then, Mia came by and patted her shoulder lightly, “Let’s go back to our dinner! You should make more friends in the future. It’ll help clear up your mind!”
She responded, “Sure!”
Ever since that day, she and Mason hadn’t met each other for a long time! It was like Ella said, there were only six main streets in Brookesville. They were bound to run into each other unless one of them was deliberately trying to avoid another. Ergo, it looked like they

won’t be seeing each other again for good
One day, Zoe asked Rosemary out for dinner. She owned a French restaurant and it was doing well. She was keen to get some advice
from her.
She had to treat Rosemary to dinner So, she had to be there first. However, she didn’t count on bumping into Mason.
He was dining with a mature, elegant lady. From the looks of it, they weren’t talking about work. That could only mean they were dating.
She didn’t make a point to avoid him. After all, they lived in the same city. It was normal for them to bump into each other from time to time.
He noticed her when she stepped foot into the restaurant. Donned in a white shirt, his eyes were particularly captivating under the warm light.
He called out to her, “Hey, Zoe!”
She nodded at both of them and replied lightly, “Hi, Mr. Mason!”
