Chapter 220
Mason sat in his car until he could no longer see Zoe.
It was dark in the car. Wearing formal attire, he leaned back on the leather seat, exuding elegance and aloofness.
Luke remained quiet in the driver’s seat for a while before asking him softly, “Are we going back to the manor, Mr. Mason?”
Mason was about to say something when his phone rang. It was his mother.
Answering the phone with his lean fingers, he said slightly coldly,” What do you want?”
Back in Lockwood Manor, Lisa was donned in an elegant sleeping gown and leaning on a luxurious couch, holding a few pictures in her hands.
They were pictures from the time when Mason and Zoe were in his car with a puppy in her hands.
Lisa questioned her son, “You guys are divorced. There’s no need to spend any time with her! How’s the public going to think about you two? What about the prospective wealthy families that intend to marry their daughters into our family? What will they think?”
He shifted into a more comfortable position and remained quiet.
Lisa thought she had gotten through to him. So, she kept going, “The way I see it, the best candidate is Quinn. Her family background and her looks are better than Zoe’s. What’s there to think about, Mason? I think you’re aware that Lockwood Corporation needs you to have a wife.”
He responded coldly, “I don’t have feelings for her!” Rubbing his
forehead, he continued, “I told you to butt out of my private life!”
That pissed Lisa off. “I’m your mom! I have the right to do so. It doesn’t matter if you start treating Zoe well now, Mason. Once a lady has given up on a man, then there’s nothing you can do to change her mind. She’d never marry you again…
He was about to say something when he heard clamoring from the other end of the phone.
“Ms. Barbara… Wake up, Ms. Barbara…”
“Ms. Lisa. Ms. Barbara overheard what you said and passed out! We need to send her to the hospital now.”
It was midnight by the time Barbara was stabilized at Lockwood Hospital.
She had regained consciousness, but she wouldn’t speak or eat anything. Lisa knew what was happening. Barbara hated having her
around.
Just as well. She wasn’t about to stay with her for long either. Rising up, she straightened up her clothes and said to Mason, “You can stay here and take care of your grandma! I’ll swing by tomorrow morning.”
He was sitting on the couch by the bed. His coat was already taken. off and laid on the couch neatly. His elbows rested on his knees, he clasped his fingers and maintained a blank expression.
“Sure.” He responded lightly. He wasn’t about to stand up and see her out. Lisa was used to his indifference. So, she forced a smile and left the hospital in the middle of the night.
The moment she left, Barbara, who was laying on the bed listlessly a moment ago, sat upright and hammered her grandson’s shoulders. She lectured him with a hushed voice.

“Why didn’t you tell me before you divorced Zoe? Do you even respect me, Mason? Zoe is such a nice girl and all you ever did was be mean to her.”
She was still so angry at him. So, she hammered him again, “I don’t care how you do it. I want you to take her back now. Get down on your knees, apologize, and beg for her to come back to your side!”
He sat there quietly as his grandma rained blows on him and lectured him,
He didn’t open his mouth until Barbara was done taking her frustrations out on him. His voice was husky when he said, “I did
horrible things to her! She might never forgive me now! There’s a fe!”
chance she won’t come back to my side for the rest of her 1
She was staring daggers at him, “What the heck did you do to her?”
He was stunned. It was very difficult for him to recount everything to his grandma.
Was he supposed to tell Barbara that he hired a team of psychiatrists to analyze Zoe, or what he did to Zoe in the study that night, or that he chose to save Lilith when it mattered most, or that, in turn, he robbed Zoe of her musical career?
He could say none of these to his grandma. Any one of these was horrible enough for Zoe to part ways with him.
He fell into deep thought and didn’t utter a single word.
Barbara grew increasingly agitated at his silence. She smacked his hands fiercely, “If you did wrong by her, then that’s all the more reason you should get her back! What are you going to do if someone else wins her heart while you dilly-dally?”
