Chapter 229
Zoe stayed the night at Ella’s place. She washed up and put on her friend’s pajamas. Then, she laid down next to her and chatted about a
of stuff.
Ella’s voice was soft and tender, “The fact was, I don’t care about
Leslie anymore! He can go ahead and marry Nellie for all I care. I have to tend to my baby now!
“I’ve thought of everything, Zoe. I’ll move out of Brookesville in two more weeks and live in a smaller city. I’ll buy a house and set up a flower shop. That’s where I’ll raise my baby.”
“You’re going to be staying so far away, though. I’ll miss you!”
“Will you drop by and visit me?”
That put a lump in Zoe’s throat, but she said, “Sure! I’m going to visit you several times throughout the whole year! I’ll even let you have a ten percent share of my dessert spot and help raise your baby into a strong kid! Your baby could be a boy or a girl. Either way, I’m sure they’ll be extraordinarily beautiful!”
Then, she leaned over and hugged Ella. “I’m going to miss you so badly!”
Ella felt disheartened at the notion too.
After that, both of them stayed in each other’s embrace wordlessly, waiting for a better tomorrow.
From that day on, Zoe started making preparations for the day her friend would leave Brookesville. She had made arrangements to buy a standalone villa in a smaller city. It was about twenty-five hundred

square feet and it was located in a sweet spot.
She wanted Ella to have a comfy life there..
Then, she bought a lot of infant clothes for her and had them sent to Yonderwood. All of the clothes she bought were adorable. Ella was
ng to love it so much,
Slowly but surely, her uneasiness turned into anticipation. She looked forward to seeing the baby being born and growing up. She’d do everything she could to make up for Ella’s unfortunate childhood.
Even Ella was jealous of her baby and made a joke that she wasn’t going to give birth after all. However, Zoe could tell that Ella was very happy about it.
Zoe went with Ella to the train station on that fateful day.
She even bought two tickets for the high-speed train, so she could send Ella to Yonderwood herself.
Ella responded by teasing her that she was being oversensitive. It had been many days since she was pregnant and nothing had happened to her. It was all going to be fine.
They were in the cab then. Zoe patted Ella’s hand lightly and said, “It’s better to be safe than sorry!”
Flashing her a smile, Ella said, “Alright. Sure!”
They were reluctant to leave each other when all was said and done. They hugged for a long time before Ella said in a husky voice,
“I know you’ve made arrangements for someone to look after me at Yonderwood. So, you should stay away for the first couple of years! We’ll see each other again when things have died down. We’ll go back to the way things were.”

Tears filled her eyes as she nodded in response.
Half an hour later, they had arrived at the train station. Ella got out of
the cab first.

just paid the cab fare and was about to get out too when she heard a loud crash. Then, something flew past her and slammed into the utility pole hard.
It was Ella.
Zoe blinked slowly. Her eyes welled up with tears. She tried to speak but no sound would come out of her mouth.
Then, she watched as Ella fell onto the ground and her ears started to bleed. At the next moment, blood started flowing down Ella’s thighs.
Only, it wasn’t blood. It was her fetus.
It was the baby that Ella had looked forward to giving birth to.
Stumbling her way over to Ella, she held her in her arms carefully and tried to talk to her.
Ella tried to respond to her. Her lips were trembling, but she couldn’t utter a single word. Realizing there was blood on Zoe’s hand, tears started to fill her eyes.
She knew she had lost the baby. Never in her wildest dreams could she imagine that the Schmidts could be this heartless.
The fact was, she wasn’t greedy. All she wanted was a child of her own. The last thing she’d do was threaten the Schmidts with her baby. She wasn’t even going to let Leslie know that she had his baby.
