Chapter 236
All of a sudden, Mason’s words rang in her mind. He said Cecil would live in regret if she ended up being with him. He’d regret the day he ok up medicine instead of fighting for more power and influence.
That wasn’t what she wanted!
She didn’t want Cecil to change the way he lived his life because of her.
It was exhausting trying to live your life for another person’s sake. She lived through that and she didn’t wish it on Cecil. A healthy relationship requires sacrifices from both of them, and not just one.
The truth was, she had nothing she could give to him. All she would be was become his burden. Like what Mason said, she’d make him regret his previous choices that led him to his current career path.
About five minutes later, someone opened the ward door.
She didn’t turn back. Instead, she continued to look out the window. A decision had been made. She wasn’t going to cushion the blow for Cedric, just like she wasn’t going to give herself a chance to regret her decision.
She said softly, “The Schmidts aren’t going to let Ella live! Mason’s the only one who could save her! I might have to return to his side, Cecil! I’m sorry!”
He froze at the door. Looking at her back, he said softly, “You fought very hard for this freedom and you’re giving it up now. Is it worth it, Zoe?”
On the other hand, Cecil understood what she was thinking. He
wasn’t trying to make her his. He merely felt sorry for her and didn’t

want her to endure an unhappy marriage.
Raising her head slightly, she said with a sob, “It’s worth it if it’s for Ella! I’m sorry, Cecil!”
He had loved her for a long time and this was the first time she had
pologized to him.
Perhaps their embrace that day was too heartwarming, so much so that she started to long to be with him and thought she could have this warmth for the rest of time. However, reality was a cruel mistress. It had given her a choice between her happiness and Ella’s life, and she had chosen the latter.
Cecil didn’t say anything. All he did was come over and pull her into his arms again.
Then, he said softly, “Okay. Take good care of yourself, Zoe.”
Zoe changed into formal attire and put on some light makeup before noon. Mia was a highly perceptive lady. She could sense something was off, but she didn’t dare ask her. That didn’t mean she wasn’t heartbroken.
However, Zoe flashed her a faint smile.
A black limousine was already parked and waiting for her by the time she came downstairs. Luke greeted her respectfully and opened the car door for her.
She got into the car. It was dark in there. The sunlight shone into it and cast fragmented lights on her face, making it seem as thought she was flickering with light.

Fifteen minutes later, she arrived at the Imperial Hotel. The hotel staff tried to stop her.

“You’ll only make things harder for yourself, Ms. Zoe!”
Luke got out of the car and barked at him. “This lady here is Ms. Zoe, wife of Mr. Mason! Even Mr. Langston has to pay her the respect she deserves. How dare you stop her?”
t frightened the hotel staff!
Did Zoe get back together with Mason? If that was the case, then he wouldn’t dare to stop her. He moved fast to get someone to lead her in.
Walking in through the revolving door, the resplendent hotel lobby
was laid out before her and she could hear a party going on in there. was the kind of party she had gotten used to in the past. The sun was shining brightly outside. It reminded her of the freedom she had enjoyed for a brief period.
Then, she turned around, as if sensing something.
It was Cecil.
His car was parked not far from here and he was standing in front of it, looking at her wordlessly. It turned out he loved her more than she expected. He must’ve worried about her so much that he followed her all the way to this hotel.
Her eyes turned red and she mouthed the words, “Go back! You have to go back.”
In response, he flashed her a warm smile.
