Chapter 245

Zoe turned her head to the side, “Aren’t you going to hop in the

shower?”

Lowering his head, he kissed her for a spell before getting out of bed and into the shower. His smile faded when he opened the bathroom

door.

The fact was, it was easiest to tell if a lady loved her husband when

they had sex.

Zoe might’ve felt a lot of pleasure, but she wouldn’t let herself enjoy the sex. She was suppressing herself. She’d rather clutch the bedsheets, instead of moaning out loud when things got heated.

In the past, she’d wrap her arm around his neck and moaned his

name.

A few minutes later, he was done with the shower and came out of the bathroom. Zoe had already gotten up. She wore a silk nightgown and her long black hair cascaded down her back, giving her a vibe that was both innocent and seductive.

Standing by the window, she stared off into space. Steam covered the window and she was drawing on it absentmindedly with her lean fingers. It wasn’t anything recognizable, but he could just make out the rough outline that formed the alphabet ‘C.’

He stood quietly at the bathroom door. He didn’t know what to feel at that moment. There was another man in his wife’s heart.

They had just had sex and, here she was, thinking about him.

If this had happened in the past, he wouldn’t have let this slide. He would’ve tossed her onto the bed and pinned her down. He’d make

her promise him that she’d never think about that man again and that

she loved him.

He’d even force himself on her!

Zoe turned around when she heard the sound and wiped off the

outline when she saw Mason.

It was a little awkward.

He said lightly, “Get changed and come down for dinner.”

She waited until after he left and traced the word with her finger.

Calla Lilies.

With this in mind, they weren’t really in a good mood during dinner, but it was a good moment, considering. He’d put some food on her plate for her. In fact, he even popped open a bottle of champagne and told her that his project already bringing in revenue. Things were looking up on the work front.

Mason’s eyes grew darker when he asked, “Now that I’m earning some profits, is there anything you want?”

She didn’t want to rain on his parade. She guessed that he wanted to buy her something and acted cutely, “One of my friends was wearing a pearl necklace the last time I met her! I was about to buy one for myself. Now, you get to do it!”

Raising his hand, he stroked her cheek playfully. “Is that the best you can do?”

Leaning on his palm like a purring kitty, she tried to please him. “It’s not exactly cheap!”

It looked like it worked. “I’ll have someone look into it!”

After dinner, he went into his study to do some work, but his mind.

wasn’t in it.

He kept replaying that dinner conversation in his mind. It wasn’t bad by any means, but it wasn’t wonderful either. Then, he resorted to smoking and pondering on it. About two cigarettes in, he got it.

Zoe had built a wall around her heart.

She was wearing a mask in their marriage. That was why she had been submissive and gentle. She’d accept everything he gave her and comply with him when he wanted to have sex with her. Needless to say, she’d take good care of his daily necessities.

She was like a perfect wife, just without the love.

All she did was pretend to be part of a lovely couple. She no longer wanted to argue with him or get mad over what he did. Simply said, she was merely putting on a show!

She might’ve slept right next to him every night, but could it be that she was thinking about Cecil the whole time?
