Chapter 254
It was Sunday afternoon. The outdoor party was held on the lawn outside their manor. Aside from Mason’s guests, Zoe also invited several friends over. Rosemary was one of them. She even brought over Farley.
The last time he saw her, he was amazed by her glorious appearance. Looking at the private party, he was astounded by her capability this time.
He brought a bottle of champagne with him and said regretfully, “I’m surprised to learn that you remarried Mason again. That means I’ve missed out on you twice!”
His honesty was refreshing to her, instead of annoying her.
Smiling faintly, she said, “You’re too kind, Farley.”
He was a smart man. He could tell she wasn’t happy with her marriage. Mason was engaged in a business conversation while Gabriela held his arm, acting like she was the mistress of the manor.
Averting his gaze, he said to her after a brief pause, “My invitation from when we first met still stands, Zoe. Should you change your mind and want to start a business in Silvercrest, know that you’re welcome anytime.”
Zoe was a little moved by his words. Then, she responded, “I appreciate you worrying about me! If I’m ever in Silvercrest, I’ll be counting on your hospitality.”
Farley felt even more disheartened at her response. He hated the universe for introducing them to each other when it was too late for him to win her heart!

At that moment, there was a commotion from the other side of the party and a lady was screaming in pain. Zoe was the party host and the mistress of the house. Naturally, she couldn’t ignore it. Putting down the glass of wine, she headed toward the source of the noise.
Gabriela was leaning on Mason’s chest. She was groaning and there was a hint of flirtiness in her voice, “It hurts! Can you take me to the hospital, Mason? I think it’s something Late!”
Turning his head to the side, he saw Zoe.
She stared at him quietly, feeling a sense of dejà vu. More than half a year ago. Lilith pulled the same trick too. She also leaned on Mason’s chest and challenged Zoe’s status as his wife.
It was the exact same picture, only with a different lady this time.
He kept saying that he loved her and he wanted to have a good life with her, but he had never given her any sense of security. Instead, he’d constantly torture her with different ladies, just to see how far he
could push her.
She knew he was troubled that she had feelings for Cecil and once considered being with him. However, who pushed her into Cecil’s arms? Who was to blame here?
She was sick of it!
Instead of exposing Gabriela’s little game, she waited for Mason to make a move. She believed that he, too, could tell that his plus-one. was merely faking it.
If he took her to the hospital himself, then he’d be openly admitting their ambiguous relationship. He would also be shaming Zoe in the
process.
Both of them were staring at each other. She was waiting for him to make a move, while he was waiting for her to give in.

He couldn’t believe that Zoe looked perfectly okay with another lady leaning on his chest. It was as if she was fine with him being with someone else! At this point, she probably wouldn’t even care if he shagged Gabriela. She might think he was a filthy man, but that would
be all.
In the end, Zoe didn’t give in to him.
Her marriage with Mason had worn her out so much that she no longer wished to give in to his wishes and let him have his way.
“Ouch! It’s not Zoe’s fault, Mason! I’m sure she didn’t do it on purpose.”
Gabriela played the pity card in front of him. In a way, she was trying to replace Zoe’s place in his heart. The fact was, Mason had been pretty close to her these days. That led her to believe that she had a bigger place in his heart than Zoe did.
After all, didn’t they say that all men prefer a new, younger lady?
