Chapter 272

Things between Zoe and Mason hit a real, low point ever since their fight in Silvercrest.

He rarely came home. If he did, it was only to get changed. They didn’t exactly talk to each other. He would even ask about her pregnancy through Ava.

On the other hand, Barbara’s condition was getting worse. They would visit her, but they’d never do it together. One would visit Barbara in the daylight while the other would do it at night. They didn’t want to see each other and make things awkward.

This went on day after day. Even Barbara noticed what was

happening, but she was powerless to do anything.

Every once in a while, some scandal about Mason would surface and

make the rounds.

Summer was gone and autumn came.

Zoe was having her breakfast at the dining table in the morning. The trees were particularly green outside and the weather held up as well.

Mason’s scandals made the newspaper. He checked into a hotel with a beautiful celebrity. Somebody took pictures of them walking in the hallway outside the presidential suite. They might not be flirting with each other, but there was something between them.

She looked at the picture in the newspaper for a long time.

Layla was concerned that she might feel sad, so she went over and said softly, “Your milk has turned cold, Ms. Zoe. I’ll get you another glass of warm milk.”

Zoe didn’t want to turn down her kind offer, so she agreed to it.

That was when another servant came in, looking troubled, and said to her. “A Ms. Quinlee would like to meet you, Ms. Zoe! What should I tell her?”

Quinlee?

Rising, she strolled to the window and checked out her unexpected guest. True enough, there was an Alphard parked in the yard. An elegant lady was accompanied by two assistants over there too.

The servant said angrily, “How shameless. I can’t believe she’s a celebrity! Let’s kick her out of here, Ms. Zoe!”

She smiled faintly in response. She wasn’t sure if Mason had had sex with Quinlee, but she did arrange for a newspaper to feature their scandal and he had yet to do anything about it. It seemed that he quite liked her.

Sitting back at the dining table, she said softly, “Bring her in here!”

The servant might be mad, but she did what she was told.

Moments later, Quinlee came into the dining hall. The first thing she saw was Zoe’s bulged belly. It looked like she was approximately seven months pregnant. Zoe was instantly different from what she had imagined. At first, she thought she’d meet a lady who would be seething with rage. However, she seemed very much at peace. Her voice was calm when she spoke.

“Mason’s not home if that’s the reason you came here.”

Taking off her sunglasses, Quinlee asked, “Don’t you hate me?”

At that moment, Layla gave her mistress a glass of warm milk.

Zoe took the glass and drank half of its contents before saying casually, “You’re not the first lady to come barging in on our premises, Quinlee, and you certainly won’t be the last! A word of

advice. If Mason meant to marry you, then he’d make sure there’s a place for you here. You wouldn’t have had to do it by yourself.”

That riled up Quinlee a little. The truth was, she merely chanced upon Mason in the hotel. She did arrange for the scandal to be published in the newspaper and she thought she stood a chance when he didn’t. do anything about it. The last thing she had expected was to be mocked by his wife.

Sneering, she said, “Men such as Mason face a lot of temptations out there! I’m sure your pregnancy is part of your plan to secure your standing in this household!”

However, Zoe merely responded casually, “There’s nothing we can do if a man insists on sleeping around.”

Quinlee was about to say something, but Zoe had had enough of her. Turning to Layla, who was standing next to her, she said gently,” Please show Quinlee the way out.”

That stunned her. She couldn’t believe she was getting kicked out of the manor.

Layla wasn’t about to take it easy with her. So, she barked at Quinlee,” Go, now! You’re in for it if Mr. Mason finds out about what you did here!”

Quinlee refused to believe what the servant said. She was sure that Mason had a thing for her.
