Chapter 273
A week later, Quinlee was banned from all activities relating to the entertainment industry. At first, she wasn’t sure who she had
offended, but she gradually learned that it was none other than Mason.
He put her on the bench because she tried to challenge Zoe’s status as his wife.
After that, she tried to ask Zoe to give her a chance. However, some people who were in the know said to her, “It wasn’t Zoe who ordered your ban. Mason was the one who pushed for it! Don’t even think about begging him to help. It won’t work on him!”
Quinlee was completely baffled and unsure of what to do next.
It was drizzling on an autumn night. A Rolls-Royce Phantom slowly pulled up to the manor. The car was drenched in the rain as it caught the glow from the light and reflected it dazzlingly.
Luke got out of the car, held an umbrella, and opened the door to the backseat. He said softly, “We’re home, Mr. Mason!”
It was dark in the car and Mason was resting his eyes. There was a lot of stuff going on at work and his grandma was edging ever closer
to death.
Barbara could never sleep well at night. At times, she would call out her son’s name when she was dazed. Mason had been taking care of her almost every night, but his efforts did nothing to make his
grandma feel better about the loss of her son.
Westley had gone missing for more than a decade and Barbara

couldn’t even see him when she was on her last legs!
Luke noticed he didn’t look too happy and decided to tread carefully around his master.
Mason walked up to the door and Layla welcomed him home. She said softly, “Do you want some supper, Mr. Mason? Ms. Zoe had just fallen asleep. She had been taking care of Ms. Barbara during the day. I think she has grown slimmer!”
The crystal chandelier was radiating brilliant light above the door. Mason relaxed a little, took off his shoes, and said softly, “I’m not going to have any supper.”
With that, he climbed the stairs slowly.
He spaced out when he was ascending the stairs and realized that it had been a week since he and Zoe last saw each other. In fact, they hadn’t even called of text
each other in that time.
Running the numbers in his mind, it had been four months since they had lived like this. It reminded him of the time when they were separated from each other.
It seemed he was getting used to this kind of life too. It was a life without a wife and he was slowly accepting a version of his future where Zoe wouldn’t be in it. Perhaps he would be able to move on from it when she gave birth to Yanni They’d just be her parents, instead of a couple, when they meet each other in the future.
The light above cast a tender glow on him.
If she hated him so much, then what was the point in trapping her in this marriage?
He made his way to the second floor and went into the bedroom. It was pitch dark in there. Layla had said Zoe couldn’t sleep well in the night and he knew that she was worried about Noah. With that said,

she didn’t beg for his help. In fact, she never even brought it up.

He didn’t plan on waking her up. Loosening his necktie, he sat down on the bed. Then, he took it off and laid down next to her. He didn’t hug her. Instead, he merely laid still quietly before sliding his hand into the blanket and touching her belly.
She might be seven months pregnant and have a round belly, but her figure was still slender and her jawline was still defined. The only difference about her, aside from the belly, was the pockmarks on her
nose.
He rubbed her belly for so long that he unwittingly woke her up. Realizing that she was awake, he pulled back his hand and started asking her about the baby. The exchange was tame and
impassionate. It was a good thing that the lights were turned off. That way, none of them needed to see each other.
By the end of the conversation, he laid on his back and said softly, “I didn’t sleep with that female celebrity. I can’t even recall her name.”
Zoe smiled faintly and said, “She didn’t do anything to me. No explanations necessary.”
The rain kept pouring outside.
Mason was hurt by what she said. His mood turned foul, but he didn’t
say anything to her. He resorted to processing the foul mood in
silence.
Both of them lay next to each other without a word. It was a cold, lonely night, but none of them hugged each other.
