Chapter 275
Mason raised his head and strained to fight back tears. When he had control of his emotions, he held Barbara’s hand and murmured gently, “It’s me, Mom. I’m home.
“You’re back, Westley!”
Tilting her head, she looked at him. She couldn’t be sure if it was really Westley. All she knew was that these were her son’s features. It was the little boy she raised.
Her last shred of energy left her and her chest was rising and falling listlessly. She didn’t have any strength left in her to call out to him.
So, she merely looked at her son.
Her lips curled into a serene smile. Her son had come home. She fell into a deep thought.
Do you know that you’re about to become a grandpa, Westley? Your granddaughter will be born in two more months. There will be another Lockwood in our family.
You’re going to be overjoyed when you see her, Westley!
The night grew darker as Barbara clung on to dear life, reluctant to let go. After all, her son had come home.
Holding her hand, Mason said to the others softly, “I want some time alone with Grandma. You guys should hit the sack!”
Moments later, he and Barbara were the only people in her bedroom. He stayed by her side throughout the last moments of her life.
Brushing her gray hair affectionately, he sang a lullaby to her. His grandma used to sing it to him when he was young. Once, she told

him that it was the same lullaby she sang to Westley when he was young.
It was five o’clock in the morning when Barbara passed away. The servants wept pitifully and went about to make preparations for her funeral.
Mason lumbered upstairs. Opening the bedroom door gently, he saw that Zoe was already awake. She was woken up by the servant’s weeps and cries.
A tear fell down from her eyes. Barbara had moved on to a better place.
Staring at her bulged belly, he said softly, “Give Grandma’s soul some time to cross over to the other side before you go to her room.”
Then, he started to get changed. The servants had prepared the necessary attire for the funeral. Perhaps they had been preparing for this moment for a long time.
Standing by the bed, he slipped out of his white shirt and put on a
dark grey shirt and long pants, as well as a black tie. He wore a blank expression as he was tying his tie, but there were subtle tears in his
eyes.
This was the only moment he could allow himself to feel grief and
sorrow.
He’d have to entertain guests and tend to the funeral affairs the moment dawn came. After all, Lisa couldn’t be bothered with it and Zoe was pregnant, so she wasn’t exactly in the right shape to be overseeing a funeral.

The Lockwoods were a wealthy and prestigious family. Naturally, they made Barbara’s funeral a big occasion. It lasted for three days and
took a toll on Mason. He was much thinner now.
Cecil made a point to come over and offered a prayer to Barbara. Mason looked stern, but he didn’t say anything about it, nor did he try. to stop him.
Lisa, on the other hand, overreacted and cried hysterically upon his arrival. She roared at Mason when they were alone, saying that he was out of his mind. Cecil was the son his father had with another woman. She couldn’t believe he’d let that bastard walk into their premises and pray for Barbara!
Mason responded softly, “Westley didn’t care about you at all. You should move on from him instead of holding on to that grudge for your whole life.”
Lisa struggled to find the appropriate words to say to him as her lips quivered.
At the end of the day, the guests left and Mason decided to go back to his bedroom. Lying down next to Zoe, he spoke to her softly, “Cecil was here and he offered up a prayer to Grandma! Would you choose to be with him after our baby is born?”
She remained quiet.
He couldn’t be bothered to ask her a second time, either.
He didn’t hold her, nor did he touch her. Barbara was gone, but they didn’t seek comfort from each other Instead, they lost another mutual connection in their already bleak relationship.
Things between them grew colder. It was reminiscent of the weather in the impending winter with unfeeling chill as far as the eyes could
see.
