Chapter 276
Their lives returned to normal after Barbara’s funeral drew to an end.
Mason started going back home more frequently.
They were still treating each other coldly. They didn’t really talk to each other during dinner and they would sleep twenty inches away from each other. Sometimes, he’d even sleep in the guest room.
Once in a while, he’d hug her from behind and brush his hands across her belly, trying to feel for his baby girl in there. If Zoe was woken in the process, she’d remain quiet and let him do his own thing.
This was how their marriage was now. Aside from Yanni, there was nothing left between them. She had forgotten that she used to love him and he had forgotten that he used to want to make up to her.
He even forgot to tell Zoe that he wanted to have a daughter who’d run towards him when he came home from work and asked for a hug.
Both of them had forgotten what made them love each other in the first place. All they could remember now was how painful it was to maintain this relationship..
Things were never going to go back to the way it was. Neither of them were willing to put their pride aside and be intimate again. They could no longer hug or give in to each other.
It had been a month since Barbara passed away. On the other hand, Zoe was eight months pregnant now. She very rarely went out of the manor and relied on Ella to look after all of her dessert spots.
Ava gave her a call around the evening. She was respectful when she said, “Mr. Mason is going on a trip. He wanted you to pack his

suitcase. Just a few outfits and his passport will do.”
A passport, she said…
Was he traveling overseas?
Something probably happened to Lilith, she thought. It was an abrupt trip, anyway. Instead of pressing for more information, she proceeded to pack his suitcase with a few outfits and his passport.
Half an hour later, Ava arrived to take the suitcase. She couldn’t help but say when she took the passport from Zoe, “Ms. Lilith was going through a transplant rejection from her previous surgery. She probably won’t last long. It actually makes no difference if Mr. Mason is there!
“I can tell there’s still something left between you and Mr. Mason. It’s not worth it to draw a wedge between yourselves for someone like her. Furthermore, you guys are going to have an adorable baby soon!”
Instead of retorting, Zoe flashed her a faint smile in response. They had been married for four years now. She knew best if there was still something left between them.
Everyone around her had the idea that she was more important to Mason than Lilith was. She used to think that too, but that slap woke her up to the cruel reality.
It turned out Mason harbored a secret. The moment when Lilith played the violin was the love he so clearly craved, but could never get.
It was an outrageous notion, but she couldn’t even be bothered to explain the truth to Mason. He didn’t trust her, anyway.
Realizing she wasn’t going to budge, Ava sighed and left.

Mason was only away for a week. They continued to treat each other coldly after that. He didn’t do anything to win her back and she didn’t say anything about changing her mind.
Ella was extremely guilty over how their relationship turned out.
Zoe wouldn’t have returned to Mason if it wasn’t for her. Her friend might keep saying that she was living a good life, but she knew better. She could tell from Zoe’s look that she wasn’t happy. At the same time, things were getting worse for Noah’s case.
They were in a coffee shop when Zoe gave her a check.
Zoe said softly, “This is four million dollars. It’s the dividend for the past six months’ business. I think our business will improve next year. It still baffles me that the franchise at Silvercrest did way better than the ones in Brookesville.”
“I have something to say, Zoe!” Ella held her hand and murmured, “I’m sorry!”
At first, she was stunned, but she knew what Ella meant after that. Lowering her head, she ran her hands across her bulged belly and smiled faintly, “Have you heard about it, at last? There’s no need to feel guilty about anything, Ella.
“Mason’s going to let me keep our child. I’ll have Yanni to keep me company in the future! I’m not going to be alone.”
She put it in a laidback manner, but Ella knew that Zoe gave up her shot at happiness for her sake. Now that she had a baby, her looks, age, and career weren’t going to matter in the future. It’d be extremely hard for her to find someone who’d love her. ”
