I Refuse to Divorce! by Light Breeze Chapter 279

Chapter 279

Mason said to her in a mocking tone, “Do you think you still mean that much to me? Do you think I still care if you want a divorce? What makes you think I have to have you?”

Zoe had to strain her eyes to stop her tears from falling. She couldn’t believe what she had just heard!

So, that was how Mason saw her. After everything they had been through, he thought she had been using him for her personal goal. Judging by his tone, he didn’t care much about their baby either.

All this just because he thought she had hung up on the phone from Seridian.

Then, he shook off her hand and walked off without so much as a glance at her. He was eager to see his beloved Lilith.

It turned out that she was the butt of the joke, not Lilith. What was so funny about this whole thing was that she didn’t even realize it until today.

She chuckled out of nowhere.

She couldn’t believe she tried to beg him for help and assumed that he’d stay back because of her. Here she was, telling herself that she didn’t love him or that she didn’t want to be the one who fixed him when, in fact, she was merely his plaything. He only needed her to sate his lust, and nothing more!

The way he treated her and Lilith was a world of difference. He’d always take Lilith’s side!

Why couldn’t she learn?

Why did she always think that there was hope between them? She

was pregnant with his baby, but he still chose to humiliate and distrust her. Why did she have to do this to herself?

She was flooded with a variety of intense emotions and her baby wriggled in her belly. It was as if Yanni sensed her mother’s distress. and reacted to it.

Standing in the quiet study, she heard the sound of an engine starting in the yard. Mason had left. He had gone to see Lilith for the last time.

On the fourth day after Mason left, Noah was sentenced to six years of imprisonment. On the same night, Gordon had a heart attack and couldn’t hang on until the ambulance came. He passed away.

It just so happened that their nation was observing the country’s independence day and another festive holiday. So, the entire nation was in a celebratory mood. Fireworks exploded in the air across every

street.

Layla was watching the television when Zoe got a call from Mia, who was wailing on the other end of the phone, “You’re dad passed away, Zoe! They just sent his dead body to the hospital. Hurry up and go over there. This is the last time you’re going to see him!”

Dad passed away…

She was still holding her phone when her fingers trembled. In fact, she was trembling all over.

She couldn’t believe that her dad was gone. He even told her that he was fine earlier today. He said he’d do his best to live on longer just so he could welcome Noah home when he was released from jail.

“No, Dad!”

She cried at the top of her lungs, desperately trying to unleash her grief.

All of a sudden, she felt a gut-wrenching pain in her belly. Blood streamed down both of her legs and dripped onto the floor, forming a puddle in mere seconds.

It turned out that babies in the belly could sense it when their mothers were going through intense grief.

A pool of blood soon collected beneath her feet. Falling to the floor, she started having seizures as her phone smashed on the floor and the screen shattered into pieces.

The whole of Brookesville was celebrating the holidays and the sky was filled with resplendent fireworks. Layla was watching the television downstairs, which was also airing celebratory shows.

No one knew what was happening to Zoe! No one was aware that she was having a preterm birth.

She was experiencing a pain so intense that her mind became dazed. In that surreal state, she thought of the fact that her husband was probably shedding tears for a lady he could never be with.

As for her, she wouldn’t be able to see her father. Noah was going to be in prison for six years. Now, there was a good chance she might not be able to keep her baby safe.

Ironically, it was the same baby that Mason used to look forward to

having.

In the past, he told her that he wanted a daughter who’d run toward him as he came home from work and asked him to hug her…
