Chapter 283
She had just given birth to Yanni not long ago, but she was overseeing her father’s funeral nonetheless.
Liam felt extremely guilty when he was offering a prayer for Gordon. Later, he apologized to Zoe. Standing before her father’s altar, she regarded his picture and smiled miserably.
“I know yo
you did your best, Liam! This tragedy befell my family because Mason removed himself from the situation. He used to do everything for me back when he loved me. However, once he was done with me he wouldn’t even give me the time of day. It doesn’t matter to him if I’m dead or alive or if I’m miserable.”
Shedding a tear, she continued, “I’m like a dog that was stripped of its pride when I’m with him. I can beg for scraps and do everything I can to please him, but it’d never amount to anything! Look at where we are now!”
Mason had once told her that her only option was to beg for his help and that he was all she had.
Not anymore. She’d never beg for his help again.
The truth was, she had almost lost everything!
A chilling wind cut into her bones as she stood before the altar. She looked so skinny that there was virtually no flesh left on her.
She stood quietly for a moment before she went down on all fours and said her final farewells to her father.
A week later, Mason’s private plane touched down at Brookesville’s airport. Carly, Eric, and Eira, Lilith’s cousin, came back with him as

well.
Needless to say, he brought Lilith’s ashes back with him.

Eric held onto her urn. Tears flowed down his cheeks, but he wouldn’t cry. Carly, on the other hand, had her own plans. They were able to enjoy the kind of wealth they had never known before because of her daughter. Now that Lilith had moved on to a better place, they needed to pass the torch to another lady.
The elders of the family appointed Eira to take Lilith’s place. At first glance, she bore some resemblance to Zoe. As expected, Mason was stunned a little when he first saw her.
Coming out of the VIP lane, Mason was about to say farewell to the Wrights. Eric thanked him profusely, but he didn’t respond in kind.
Carly led her husband away and left Eira with him when the time was right. She did it so they’d have a private moment, but she never thought he’d ask about the vinyl.
They were in the VIP smoking zone.
Mason was dressed completely in black. Even his windbreaker was black as well. Tall and fit, there was an indescribable elegance to him. His face sunk in when he was smoking, adding a layer of masculine
charm.
It was enough to make Eira’s heart pound intensely.
However, she didn’t dare let her fantasies run wild. Mason had a wife, after all. On top of that, there was a rumor that he was about to have a child. Her mother had highlighted to her that she could try to win his heart, but she should never be his mistress the way Lilith did!
She knew what it meant to be a man’s mistress. It was nothing more than being a rich man’s lover on the side.
Casting a glance at the stunning man before her, she found it hard to

put him and Lilith together. Her cousin’s appearances were simply not good enough for him. She found Zoe’s pictures online and had to admit that she was extremely pretty.
Perhaps Mason has a weird way of defining beauty.
Flicking his cigarette, he said lightly, “Try looking for a vinyl that
contains a track entitled ‘Méditation in the stuff that Lilith left behind. Send it over to Lockwood Corporation if you find it. Ava will issue a check for your trouble.”
She got it now. It turned out he loved Lilith for her musical talents.
Then, she smiled calmly and agreed to look for it.
Máson was stunned. He saw a little bit of Zoe in Eira when he looked
at her face.
Then, he turned away. He didn’t want to see it. In fact, he didn’t have the courage to see it. Zoe no longer loved him. She felt sick every time they had sex. Those were her words.
How did things come to be the way they were today?!
Snuffing out the cigarette, he stood up. The gloominess in his eyes was intense. Instead of saying goodbye to Eira, he headed straight for
the exit.
He was at the arrival hall when Ava raced toward him frantically. Her mouth was agape when she saw him. She was at a loss for words for a second.
So many things happened in just seven days and Mason was oblivious to all of it.
She stared at Mason, tears in her eyes. Even her lips were trembling slightly. Then, she finally found her voice, “Ms. Zoe had a preterm birth, Mr. Mason!”
