Chapter 282

Thus, Yanni was born.

The doctor told her softly. “Your baby’s doing very well! She just has to stay in the incubator for a week, then you can take her home.”

Lying limp on the bed, she couldn’t stop her lips from trembling.

She had gone through too much pain, joy, and sorrow-in just one night. She was so weak that she couldn’t utter a single word.

Holding her hand,

a said with a tearful smile, “Did you hear the doctor, Zoe? The baby’s doing well! Yanni is fine!”

Zoe squeezed out a smile, but tears rolled down her cheeks the next second.

Yanni was put into the incubator.

Lisa was looking at her through the glass, overjoyed. That was Mason’s baby over there. She was a grandmother now! The baby had a prominent brow and a well-defined nose, just like Mason.

She kept her gaze on Yanni for a long time.

Perhaps it was because of the baby, but she finally turned her thoughts to Zoe’s well-being. So, even though it was already very late, she asked the servant, “How’s Zoe doing? Give me the herbal soup if you bring it. I’ll take it to her. After all, she needs the nourishment.”

The servant wanted to say something but thought better of it.

Frowning, Lisa said, “What’s wrong?”

Now, the servant didn’t dare to keep it from her. So, she told her

mistress everything. “Ms. Zoe merely took a half an hour break after giving birth to her baby. After that, she got changed and left with Ms. Mia. They probably went to see Mr. Gordon for the last time.”

Lisa’s heart sank at what the servant said. After a long time, she asked softly, “Did any of the Sanders send word for our family to attend the funeral

Shaking her head, the servant said, “None whatsoever! Ms. Mia didn’t say anything about it.”

Then, Lisa slumped onto the long bench.

It was clear now. Zoe was about to part ways with Mason for good. She should’ve been delighted. In any case, her granddaughter was born. So, it didn’t matter if Zoe stayed or left.

However, she couldn’t bring herself to be happy about it.

What Leslie said to her rang in her ears.

“If you don’t save her, Mason will go mad, and you’ll regret it for sure!”

It can’t be. Mason is her son. Why would he go mad over a mere

woman?

It’s preposterous!

The door to the Sanders’s place was wide open.

The night breeze blew into the house and the cold was piercing.

The makeshift altar looked pathetic. Gordon had lived a prosperous. life, but his son couldn’t even attend to him in his death. Mia, his second wife, was the only one who was overseeing the funeral.

Zoe stood before the altar and knelt slowly. She had just given birth, but she looked so thin. Ladies usually had a rosy look to them after

delivering a baby. However, she looked as if she was robbed of her. entire life force in just one night.

Holding onto the coffin, her lean fingers started trembling slightly. She couldn’t stop herself from crying when she saw her father. If she had been more capable, then Noah wouldn’t have had to be

imprisoned for six years and her father wouldn’t have died of a heart attack after learning about it.

Her family was torn apart in just one night. She had been through so much in life and each incident was so devastating.

With tears in her eyes, Ella supported her and cried with her.

Mia was heartbroken at the sight. Dashing over, she held Zoe and

burst into tears.

“Your dad was worried sick about you before he passed away. I know you’re in deep pain, Zoe, but you have to think about yourself. It’s freezing now. You have to stop kneeling here! You’re going to break your dad’s heart if he sees this!”

However, Zoe remained kneeling.

Offering up a prayer to her dad, she proceeded to kneel and bow there for a long time. She hoped her father would know how sincere she was right now. She hoped he’d forgive her because she hadn’t been there when he died.

With tears flowing down her cheeks, she told him that she had given. birth to little Yanni and that she was going to raise her right. She was going to shower her with love.

Mia supported her, tears streaming down her cheeks.

The entire family wallowed in deep grief and pain. They didn’t make an announcement about Gordon’s death because they wanted to keep a low profile. However, the Sanders used to be one of the

wealthy and powerful families and Noah’s case was common knowledge among most of high society.

Gordon’s death still ended up making the headlines for three straight days. That, in turn, attracted a lot of people to come over and pay their respects to him.

Ruby, Cecil, Rosemary, Terrence, Gregory, and Leslie were there. Farley even came all the way from Silvercrest for the funeral.

Mason was the only one who didn’t show up.

It had been several days now, but she didn’t mention a thing about him. It was as though he had never been a part of her life, as if she

never had a husband… or anyone else she loved, for that matter
