Chapter 304
They ended things on a bad note
Ever since that night, they treated each other even more coldly. At times, it seemed
Mason’s obsession with her was the only thing holding them together
He wouldn’t set her free.
What he didn’t know was that Eita’s presence made Zoe’s postpartum depression, which had been starting to improve slightly, way worse than before. It was so serious that she had to take antidepressants, which meant she had to stop breastfeeding Yanni. So, the baby drank only formula now.
All the promises he made about making up to her turned to dust before their strained relationship. Perhaps he still cared about Zoe, but he craved Eira’s adoring and admiring eyes more than her. It was enough to make him forget about home.
It was the end of the year and Zoe’s condition got more serious. She’d get insomnia and had to take sleeping pills every night. At first, she merely needed one of them to
go to sleep. Now, however, she needed to take three to knock herself out.
However, she’d be jolted awake all the same if Yanni started crying in the middle of
the night. Then, she’d carry her baby in her arms, trying to soothe her with lullabies
in the middle of the night.
Mason was oblivious to all of this.
They might live under the same roof, but they were nothing short of strangers. She had always said he hurt her deeply when, in fact, the same could be said about her. Both of them might’ve given each other the cold shoulder, but Mason still looked stunning and full of life while she wilted away like a rose in the winter.
In the past, Zoe would, always attend Lockwood Corporation’s year–end party with Mason, but it was said that she’d skip it this year.
The whole of Brookesville was aware that their relationship had gone sour. So, a lot
of ladies were eager to take her place. Alas, Mason didn’t invite any one of them.
Instead, Lisa went to the party as his plus one.
The party was held in the Imperial Hotel’s banquet hall and the place was crawling
with people, all of them mingling about.
Mason had just opened the night with a dance with his mother, but he wanted to go
back home. Yanni caught a cold the night before and became feverish that morning.
Naturally, he was worried and wished to stay by his daughter’s side.
He suddenly recalled that he had been spending much less time with Yanni lately.
Lisa called out to him and stopped him from leaving. Walking over to him, she said
in a hushed voice, “I understand that you’ve getting quite close to a female intern
recently. I understand you have your needs, Mason. However, that begs a question. If Zoe’s condition can’t be fixed, then why won’t you remarry someone else who deserves you?
“I still think Gabriela’s a wonderful choice and she’s still holding out for you! You
can hardly take an intern to social functions. It’s better you stay away from the likes
of her.”
Frowning, he said, “There’s no such thing going on, Mom!”
Lisa was about to say something when the door to the banquet hall opened. Eira
strolled in, wearing a white satin gown by The Atelier. She looked both innocent and
sexy in it.
It was the same gown Zoe wore three years ago. That was the first time she had
attended a dinner party after they were married.
Eira looked a little similar to her and wore the same gown that she did. The worst thing was, she regarded Mason with admiration. It was the perfect combination for
him!
At that moment, it felt as if Eira filled the hole Zoe left in him.
As a mature man, he naturally knew why Eira dressed herself like this. She meant to serve herself on a silver platter. He could be satisfied sexually if he wanted. He could do to her everything he had wanted to do to Zoe. This young lady would go
along with him and let him have his way with her until he was thoroughly satisfied.
Staring at her quietly, an enigmatic chaim exuded from his eyes. It was the kind of charm a mature man naturally possessed.
Eita Nushed and greeted him sheepishly, “Good evening. Mr. Mason!”
She was looking forward to his reaction. However, he merely came over, paused a moment, and said, “Nice dress.”
