Chapter 318
The Wright faintly and Eira were invited to Mason’s manor that night.
All of them felt uneasy. They weren’t sure what his intention was. Carly, on the other hand, felt pretty good about it. She said, “Mason must’ve remembered how happy Lilith made him and wanted to repay us for it. Perhaps he’s going to give us a check! Whatever it is, we’ll take it.”
The joy in her voice made it hard to believe that she had just lost her daughter not
six months ago.
Eric barked at her, “Greed has clouded your judgment!”
She was about to retort when Ava came downstairs. She put on a smile immediately and said, “I appreciate that Mr. Mason thought of us during this festive season, Ms.
Ava!”
Different from before, Ava sounded very cold and aloof when she said, “Mr. Mason is waiting for you in his study.”
Their hearts dropped to their stomach collectively at the tone of her voice. Even Carly wasn’t so sure of herself anymore. She gave Eira a push when they were climbing the stairs, and said softly, “Say what you must later. Remember everything
I did for you.”
Eira’s face was as white as a sheet.
She could subtly feel that this had something to do with the vinyl she gave Mason. It looked like she made a blunder, but there was no way she was going to say it out
loud now.
In a minute, Ava led
them to the study upstairs. The smoke of tobacco was so stifling
that Carly waved her hand and squealed, “Isn’t it your job to take care of Mr. Mason,
Ms. Ava? Can we even stay in a place as suffocating as this?”
Ava merely sneered in response.
Mason was sitting on the couch. He was still dressed in formal attire. He hadn’t even

taken off his tie. Lowering his head, he glanced at the cigarette between his fingers and said in a deep voice, “Why did you two ask Lilith to impersonate Zoe back then?”
Both Carly and Eric were stunned. Eira, however, was shocked for a different reason
What did he mean by Lilith impersonating Zoe?
An awkward silence hung over the study. Then, Carly broke the silence with her shrill voice, “Have a heart, Mr. Mason. You can’t make such accusations and kick us out just because Lilith has passed away. W–We’re not going to admit anything.”
“Kick you out, eh?”
Tossing the vinyl before her, he said, “This is Lilith’s iteration of ‘Méditation‘ and it doesn’t hold a candle to the one you guys stole back then!”
Carly was about to defend herself, but Eric snapped at her, “How many times do I have to tell you? You can’t resort to dirty tricks and yet you coerced Lilith to do it with you, regardless of my warnings.
“Now, look where we are. We’re down one daughter and our reputation is ruined. How am I supposed to show my face around everyone from now on?”
Carly retorted, “Don’t you know that I did what I had to for Lilith and our sake?”
Just like that, they were engaged in a fierce fight.
“That’s enough!”
Mason’s voice was soft, but he was tired of this. “I’m not going to ask about the details. I called you over because I have some announcements to make.
“Firstly, you’re going to return to me all of the properties I gave to the Wrights. Secondly, take Lilith’s ashes away with you. I’m not going to bury her remains in
Brookesville. Lastly, I don’t ever want to see your faces again.
Hearing what he said, Carly slumped onto the floor immediately, “You can’t do this to us. It’s no different from killing us, Mr. Mason.”
Mason responded with a blank face, “There’s another choice, actually. You can rot in
prison!”

That brought Carly to tears. Then, she blatantly tried to quilt him, “We’re saving the money for our retirement, Mr. Mason. What are Eric and I supposed to live with if you take them all back? Come over here and beg Mr. Mason, Eira. Didn’t you say he liked you very much?”
Eira felt so ashamed that she was at a loss for words.
So, this was the truth. She knew she meant nothing to Mason, but she didn’t count. on Lilith being the same as well. Her cousin merely got all the care and support from
Mason because she impersonated Zoe.
She tried to help Carly up and said, “It was our fault to begin with, Aunt Carly…”
All of a sudden, Carly slapped her in the face!
Then, she lacerated Eira with some truly awful insults.
Mason was sick of it. Rising, he left the study with Ava in tow.
“I’ll take care of them, Mr. Mason!”
