Chapter 330

Mason didn’t try to search for Zoe after she left the city.

It was just like what he told Ava. He’d set her free and let her live life the way she wanted to. Eventually, he got used to life without her and his baby. He just had to go through life without any news about them.

Sometimes, he thought Zoe could be quite heartless to leave him, just like that.

Time flew. Spring and summer were gone. Then, autumn came and the leaves turned a golden hue.

Mason was working in his office at Lockwood Corporation. The afternoon light cascaded on him through the window, highlighting his divine features.

Then, he heard the sound of his office door opening. It was clearly Ava, so he asked nonchalantly without raising his head, “I have a golf game with Lucius at four in the afternoon. Are there any changes?”

However, Ava remained quiet. Instead, she strolled on straight to her and laid down a manila envelope before him.

Raising his eyes, he stared at her. After a brief moment, something came to him and he felt a lump in his throat. “Is this from her?”

Nodding her head, she confirmed his suspicions and proceeded to give him some

space.

His office door was closed and he was all alone in his wide office. Sitting quietly, he felt as if he was a forlorn traveler who was finally coming home and experiencing

mixed feelings about his return.

There were some pictures in it and all of them were Yanni’s, such as when she was sleeping, taking bite out of an apple while she was sitting in her toy car, and

He went through every single picture. Then, he looked at every single one of them all over again. Zoe wasn’t in any of the pictures. He couldn’t help but feel disappointed as he slumped onto his chair.

After a brief moment, he checked the pictures on his phone. There was the photo of Zoe at twenty–one years old, lying next to him.

He stared at it quietly for a long time. All of a sudden, it hit him.

Today was Yanni’s birthday. It was also the anniversary of when Zoe literally risked

her life to give birth to her.

Calling for Ava, he said in his husky voice, “Call off my golf game with Lucius.”

She could guess what was bothering him. So, she simply responded, “Sure.”

He checked Zoe’s picture before putting it back into the pocket of his suit. Taking

his coat, he decided to leave work earlier than usual. The cufflinks on his shirt

glowed brilliantly when he rose. It was the same pair of cufflinks Zoe had bought

him.

It was four in the afternoon by the time he reached his manor. Layla noticed him coming home and rushed over to open the car door for him. She sounded concerned.

Raising his hand, he gestured that he was feeling fine. The other servants were. setting up the dining table for dinner when he walked into the living room. Stopping in his tracks, he said lightly, “Prepare a birthday cake for dinner.”

With that, Layla recalled that it was Yanni’s birthday today and went away to do his

bidding.

Climbing upstairs, he walked straight into his bedroom and ran his hand across the

crib. It had been left untouched since Zoe left with his baby. Back then, Yanni

couldn’t even sit by herself. Now, however, she was starting to walk. She probably could speak short phrases too.

Did she still remember what her father looked like?

Raising his head, he couldn’t help but gulp. Then, he made his way to the fitting room. Zoe left most of her belongings here. She merely packed the clothes she wore regularly. All of her jewelry was left untouched.

He had been staring at them every day, missing her ever since she left.

That night, he sat alone in the dining hall. He blew out the candles on the birthday cake and ate it alone. His thoughts were about his ex–wife and his baby as he finished his dinner in the wide, empty hall.
