Chapter 333
It started raining when he drove home.
Switching on the wipers, he watched as the raindrops fell on his windshield,
blurring the neon lights in the city.
The night grew darker.
Mason drove for another five minutes when he saw a white Maserati pulled over by the side of the road. A lady was opening the hood of the car with an umbrella in her hand. She took a look at the engine and went back to her car.
It was Zoe.
Stepping on the brakes lightly, he pulled over by her car. Then, he looked at her across the car window. She was panicking, unsure of what to do. It looked like she was searching for something, probably a business card.
After a long time, she raised her head and noticed him. Both of them locked gazes, but no one uttered a single word. It seemed as if they were thrown back to the tragic split a few years ago and couldn’t pull themselves out of it.
Raindrops rolled down their windows, reminiscent of the tears shed by heartbroken lovers. Much time had passed when he got out of his car with an umbrella and
tapped at her car window lightly.
Zoe was startled, as if she was abruptly woken from a deep slumber. Then, she lowered her window. The cold had turned her face slightly pale. Several strands of her hair, which had been tied neatly when he met her earlier, fell to the side of her
cheeks now, giving rise to an elegant vulnerability.
Mason had never thought of himself as a perverted man, but he loved looking at Zoe
and her darling figure.
Fixing his gaze on her face, he said tenderly, “Did your car break down? I’ll give you.
a ride. You can arrange for someone to tow your car tomorrow.
Putting down her phone, Zoe was reluctant to get into his car. “That doesn’t sound
appropriate.”
He stared at her intensely. “Are you worried that I’ll do something outrageous?”
He was so forthright that it brought a faint smile to her face. Then, she opened her car door and got out of it. “You’re too kind, Mason! Given your background and status, a lot of women would readily throw themselves at you.”
He held the umbrella and shielded her from the rain. At the same time, he held her
close to his side, careful not to make her feel repulsed. He didn’t say anything until
after she sat in his car. “You used to sit next to me like this all the time. Do you
remember that?”
Buckling herself in, she said lightly, “Are we going to pretend I’m the only woman

who has ever sat Enough of the small talk, Mason. Just drive!”
His eyes grew darker. “Are you still staying in the same apartment?”
She nodded.
They say time can wash away a lot of things.
Now, they were no longer at each other’s throats like they used to be. Instead, they
were at peace with each other. Alternatively, perhaps it was because they watched
their tongues and avoided talking about the unpleasant past.
They had clearly grown apart. They were no longer a couple.
The traffic light turned red and he stopped the car. Leaning back on the seat, he
trained his gaze on the road and asked in a husky voice, “How’s life in Silvercrest?”
Smiling faintly, she responded, “It’s all good. I founded The One Gourmet a couple of
years o and it’s going well

He took a cigarette out of the packet, but he didn’t light it up. Instead, he held it
between his fingers and asked, “Do you still enjoy making desserts and other
dishes?”
Her smile faded. “I don’t make them as frequently, now that I have someone making
them for me. I make them when I have the time. Yanni loves them. She’d even share
some of them with her friends at the kindergarten. She might be young, but she’s

quite considerate.”
Her tone was serene. Staring at her, he murmured after a brief moment, “You’ve
changed quite a bit, Zoe.”
She looked so serene and graceful now.
There wasn’t a trace of the young lady she used to be. She had grown more mature
and was charming and self–assured. Needless to say, he couldn’t find anything that
suggested she still loved him at all.
She smiled at what he said. “The world has presented me with a lot of hardships. I
had to change and adapt in order to survive! But look who’s talking. Haven’t you
changed as well?”
Tilting his head, he looked at her.
Her cheeks looked exquisite and her brows delicate.

Pondering on it for a long time, he still hadn’t figured out what she meant. However,
he had to admit that she turned him on a little.”
