Chapter 379
Taking back the documents, she resumed reading them and said gently, “That’s not a part of their job scope. There’s no reason they should do my work. Also, there are bound to be complaints and grudges once it has gone on for a long time. For that matter, you were never someone who would take advantage of your company staff to take care of something unrelated to work.”
She looked so calm that it sent a tingling sensation down his spine. After a brief moment, he smiled and asked, “What sort of a person do you think I am?”
Putting down the documents, she grumbled, “You’re not a person. You’re a monster!”
He was stunned by her response for a second. Then, he lowered his head and kissed her. It was a tender kiss, but she stopped him nonetheless. “Yanni’s going to see us.”
Instead of continuing to kiss her, he stared at her intensely and said, She was very engrossed in her teddy bear. I’m sure she won’t see us.” She ignored him and resumed checking through the documents.
He liked it this way. So, he tried to keep the conversation going. “Mia made me some pizza earlier.”
However, she wasn’t even bothered enough to raise her head. Underneath the light, her face glowed as she responded lightly,” That’s because they made too many pizzas in the afternoon. Even the gardeners and security guards got a slice.”
Nibbling on her ear gently, he asked, “Are you saying that to annoy me?”
That was too intimate for her. It wasn’t something they had previously agreed on. They were supposed to make a baby together and that was it.
Mason knew just what she was thinking. He might’ve felt
disappointed, but he would keep his word. “Don’t worry about it! I
won’t get in your way if you insist on leaving.” With that, he went away to hang out with Yanni.
The little girl sat her teddy bear upright and started making a sketch. She might’ve been a four-year-old kid, but her drawing was quite
impressive.
He, on the other hand, picked up the teddy bear and stared at it for a long time. All of a sudden, he asked, “I’ve never seen this figure
before. Did you buy it today?”
There was no way she could keep it from him. So, she responded softly, “It’s a gift from him.”
She thought he’d get all upset at what she said. Raising her eyes, she met his gaze.
His eyes were dark and profound. It was impossible for her to understand what he was thinking based on them.
Surprisingly, he didn’t get mad at all. He merely said, “I see.”
It was the middle of the night and she knew he stayed awake and sat in the private lounge until dawn. A streak of gentle light shot across the sky by the time he climbed back into bed.
She fell asleep again.
The next time she woke up once more, he was no longer sleeping on the bed. There was a red rose by her pillow and a delicate box was tied together with it. She opened it and found a diamond ring that was radiating brilliantly.
It was none other than the wedding ring she had worn for years.
The truth was, it was her birthday today and this was the gift he had prepared for her.
It was obvious what he was trying to do. He longed to reconcile with
her!
Sitting on the bed, she lost herself in thought. Mason was the
sweetest husband any lady could’ve had. He fit every profile of the ideal husband she had fantasized about when she was young.
That is, if their ugly history didn’t exist.
Alas, it wasn’t something she could ever forget. She might’ve started having feelings for him, but she could never put everything behind her and remarry him.
Perhaps it’d be best for them if they ended things once and for all, even if it would leave a deep regret in their hearts!
She was wallowing in melancholy when she heard a commotion downstairs. She was stunned briefly before she put on a coat and went to the balcony to take a look at the situation.
That was when she saw Noah.
He had just stepped out of the car, wearing modest casual attire. H had grown much thinner, but his features were still very dashing. After all, both of them looked very much alike.
Gripping the railing tightly, she called out to him in a husky voice,” Noah!”
Raising his eyes, he locked gazes with her. Tears had already filled her eyes as she called out to him over and over again.
“Noah! Noah!”
Ignoring her bare feet, she raced downstairs and leaped into his embrace, just as she used to do when she was young and her brother returned from his travels.
They say that time flies, but nobody says anything about how cruel time can be. It had taken so much away from both of them.
